A Whats up and Some Damage Pictures - 22/06/06 05:33 AM

Hey Guys,

My name is James, I'm from Maryland. I purchased my Xterra January of 2005. Its a 2004, 5spd, 4x4, XE. I don't really have that much done to it.

Coming to work yesterday morning... I met a fellow nissan infront of me. There was a 2004 Frontier stopped dead in the road. No one was hurt in this accident. Here are the pics...

Well, no one was hurt, and you provided yet another good illustration as to why a brush guard is a cosmetic affectation that increases your damage in an impact.

A lot of people have taken the check from the insurance Co, and had a Shrockworks bumper installed instead of the stock one, as the $ they charge against the stock POS goes a long way towards subsidizing the Shrock...if not paying for it outright, etc.

(Conceptually, you could get a TJM, KMA, Calmini or ARB instead of the Shrock...but the other's got Shrocks I'm aware of)

Anyway - glad its only vehical damage.

i am sure people get brush guards more for saving lives...they are ugly anyways who cares if when u crash that the brush guard causes more damage to your own car, insurance covers it....a brush guard is only good for a fender bender and carshed in which to save ur life

I have no idea what you are trying to say...?

If its that a Brush Guard might save your life, that would be stupid, as they won't help at all, so you can't mean that, or maybe you are being sarcastic?

You can't be saying they are OK for fender benders, as they INCREASE the damage in a fender bender, so you can't be saying that...

Or maybe more sarcasm?

I've seen too many accidents where a simple tap that would have had no real damage was turned into an insurance claim due to the Brush Guard's extra damage to stuff that would have gotten away scott free.

I don't agree that they are ugly...some look ok....they just have no purpose.

maybe if you hit a pedestrian, it would soften the blow to them...?

we should do a study. we could use deer collisions, as people collisions are much harder to come by.

Post deer dammage, equiped with brush guard and speed you were traveling at impact. for examples:

85mph Brush Guard - DOI - Dead on Impact
20mph Brush Guard - Deer ran off
45mph No Brush Guard - Deer not feel so good, but still wiggling.

i came up on a guy once that had just hit a deer (real nice buck) with his 04 king ranch f-150. he said he was going about 50(which is the speed limit) and was able to slow down to about 20 by the time he hit it. he had a brush guard on and it looked like he had run into a large flat wall. it completely trashed the front end of his truck but the deer was able to get about 50yds from the truck after impact where it was shot. if he wouldnt have had it on there, it wouldnt have messed it up as much. i saw him a few weeks after and he had the truck fixed but no more guard.

James, I am glad you are OK. [ThumbsUp]

That said,..... brush guards suck. If you had shrocked(verb?) him you could have stood around wondering how much the insurance bill for his repair would be. And if you were going to rub the paint marks off your bumper.
