just a quick question, what defines northern vs. southern CA? I'm kinda in the middle, which club should I look into?

NCCX typically is centralized in the Bay Area, and SCCX is typically based in the LA area. I guess you can measure which one is closer to you, or you can just join both!

Fresno is usually the "unofficial" cut off line between the two as far as I have heard. This makes since because when I lived in Fresno, they covered both the Northern and Southern California sports teams.
But since your in Visalia you are probably going to have shorter drives to NCCX events.
So just take that info for what its worth and go from there.

SCCX runs trails in the desert quite frequently (Death Valley, etc.) and from Visalia, a quick hop down 99 to 58 gets you there.
NCCX runs trails in the Sierras during the warmer/drier months, so those may also be of interest to you.
Since you're mid-state, you could probably participate in both, depending which suits your schedule and interest at the time!
By the way, I think some NCCXers have discussed the possibility of running the Dusy-Ershim trail, which is pretty close to you.
