Xterra tube doors - 10/06/04 12:11 PM

All -

Our club sponsor Shorty's OffRoad is looking into making tube doors for the X. He is wanting to know if anyone from the SWXC wants to donate their truck for a little R&D. If you are interested, let me know.

Scott would there be some sort of "skin" on the doors to keep the weather out. Sort of like a vinyl type of material that can be taken off and on?

Possible to soon to know.

Ryan (and anyone else),

For questions on the tube doors, contact the member above called shortysoffroad. His name is Greg. He is the owner and the person who will be desiging the doors. He is very approachable and very helpful. Plus, by doing so, you will alleviate me of my 'middle man' duties. smile

Really useless replacement doors.

I'll expand on my reply a bit.

Tube doors are found on rock crawling rigs because they are based on a tubed chassis, custom built for rock crawling.

Putting tube doors on a vehicle such as an Xterra is pointless. By doing so you end up with a vehicle that can not be locked or left anywhere because the vehicle is open to theft.

By replacing the factory doors you lose side and frontal impact protection and roll-over protection because the factory doors are an integral part of the body design. Without a full roll cage and a 5-point harness they greatly increase your odds of bodily injury.

The only advantge they give, if you can call it that, is the ability to look down along side your vehicle, something that is just as easy to do by looking out the window. Some people also think they look cool.

Shorty's Offroad has posted several times to this board about promoting products and has been asked to read our advertising agreements and terms of service. I was approached about advertisement but have not heard back from them.

If you wish to discuss similar useless, unsafe products, please do so on another forum.
