I personally would have held onto it for a while, monitoring all the news / newspapers etc. for any robberies in the area. If it turns out there was one and the money was stolen, then I'd hand it in.

If the story ends up being some dumbass security guard on an armored truck accidentally let a $65k bag of money fall onto the street. Merry Christmas Me.

I imagine it depends on whether it was reported stolen, and whether the serials were noted. If the serials are known stolen, you'd be up shit creek.

Integrity doesn't have a price, so there's only one answer...turn it in. If it goes unclaimed, you'll get it. And yeah, whoever claims it has to have proof it's theirs.

Every other time you hear about this kind of thing, it's some elderly person's life savings or something like that - so I'd probably turn it in.
