How to mount the spare tire? - 27/01/07 09:18 AM

k...probably stupid question - since I've been searching all over, and nobody's describing teh details - but here goes.

Wife got rear-ended yesterday. No obvious damage - except that the spare tire got dropped to the ground...

So, here I am this morning, figuring I'd put it back in place - except that I can't figure it out!

Managed to lower the chain using that long T bar, etc...only thing I can't figure out now is how the !@#$% do I attach the tire to that chain to hoist it back up??

Was there a part that got dropped that she didn't see on the ground when she got hit and that I would now need?

Thx!

there should be a flange at the end of that chain, if there isnt then your f$%^d, if its still there then:

lower the chain until the flange is resting on the top of the tire. stick the flange into the center whole of the rim, you may have to prop the tire up 20 to 30 degrees on one side to make the chain and flange reach thru the whole. then start cranking till the spare is snug.

Thx for the reply - obviously, I'm missing the "flange" whatever that is - as I only have the chain without anything else attached to it.

Guess I'll go by the dealer and see if I can get one...!

Its like a flat piece of metal on the end of the chain which goes through the center of the spare. Put the flat part through the spare then crank it up.
