custom xterra front bumper

I made this bumper and wanted to get some opinions. Its not finished yet, but will be next week. it just needs some aluminum in the open areas.

it looks awesome. couple questions i have and i am sure that they are dumb:

1. you just had to post that pic, didnt you???

2. will one be able to mount a winch to it?

3. what about front recovery points?

Yes, there is an open area to add a winch in there. When I put the aluminum in there im going to weld in a bar between the framehorns to stiffen those up and add a clevis shackle mount in there... Should work nicely

will they be available, or is it a "one of"?

look at these scavengers! I can make one for you if you have a 2" BL as that would be the only jig I have to go by...

no body lift here.


as far as scavengers, at least i know some one will by my shrochworks bumper quickly and close

Shipping and a BL would put it out of my price range.

I went to the Xcursion at badlands. Don't have the names at the moment but, a green pathy, white X and blue fronty. Also did mod day at wanderinwood. Also i get paid every 2 weeks and you guys run events on the week i don't get paid!Need to switch it up and i'm under Taz on MXO

Cool, I met Nick in HP a while back right after your accident and he told me about it. Sucks. I hadn't seen his truck in Jamestown in a while so I wondered if he moved, but I still see his truck at his work so I knew he didn't move far. Where you guys living at now? Is that your silver X that your working on?

I may have to take you up on some help with some mods. I'm still pretty much stock and been wanting some sliders and a bumper. Nick said you do some nice work.

It looks like you might want to bring the frame horn mounts back further to the cross member before you do your tie in to brace it, as the box is kind of short otherwise.

To brace the winch fairlead/feet, etc...as you are doing Al plate for the gaps...I figure you plan a steel plate across the front, between the horns too? (Tie into front recovery point bracing?)

With the leverage of the stinger up front...you might want to sleave the frame horns, as they are (From what I can see at least...), what will be resisting and forces on the stinger...I do like the brace you have in that direction already too though.

I like the simple loop for the side/fender protection, it works for me.

I prefer bars to protect the rest of the front clip, not just the stinger...maybe a tie in from mid-stinger height, back to the wings or something...but that would change the lines, etc....but given the deer I hit in NJ all the time...the head light areas take a beating otherwise.

What's the diameter/wall thicknesses?

The frame horns are plenty strong believe it or not. My frontier took 7 rolls on the freeway on the ARB bumper and the frame horns were straight. I am not concerned about them bending in a roll over.The brace will go inbetween the frame horns to make sure they dont move and I measured the other day and its just fine. The bumper was made to the specs of the buyer and he didnt want bars going over headlights as he has an EXO cage planned in the future and thats when that will come into play. To brace the winch there will be tube coming off the mounts to some plate, gusseted of course and a couple more grade 8 bolts thru the frame.

The tubing is 1.75"x.120 wall DOM... Just the same as you would find on about any other bumper on the market.

mine has that too, i just havent had it wleded in yet.

the sheet metal is held on by tabs that have been welded to the tubes and then bolted on.
