Stabilizer vs. Shocks

I was going to order a stabilizer soon, but I was reading through the old posts and now I'm wondering if spending the money on new shocks wouldn't be smarter. I've got 24,000 miles on my truck so the original shocks are probably getting old.
The reason I was getting a stabilizer was that I put on 31's and when I hit bumps, the front wheels have a tendency to go their own way. For example, I was driving and I went over a dip in the pavement, and I was going about 60kpm (?45mph?), so the truck kind of popped up (not off the ground or anything) and the steering yanked to the left. I corrected it pretty quickly, but it scared the shit out of me at the time.

So does that sound like a problem a steering stabilizer or new shocks would solve?

I would seriously do both... I have, and it's totally worth it.

If you're in a cash pinch though - go for the shocks, you'll need them more. The stabilizer is just icing on the cake.

Do what fits your pocketbook. The shocks will give you more noticeable differenc on road as well as off road. But don't discount the SS as it makes a noticeable difference on washboard and bumpy roads.

Where is the stabilizer for $50? I was looking at the EOE one for $85 and the SLR was only $1 cheaper. I figured the difference in price was about $150 and I'd prefer to go with the stabilizer. But if the problem is caused more by the suspension than the tires then I figured it would help more to spend the extra cash.

Well, the problem is that your shocks already have nearly 25k on them... I'd replace those first as they're surely due - or will be, soon.

They're more important than the steering stabilizer, which you can add later on when you have more cash or whatever.

My bad, it's been a long time since I put it on. $84 sounds about right, still a big difference in price though wouldn't you say?

I don't doubt that the stabilizer would help. But the way I'm thinking is that if the shocks are the problem, then the stabilizer will only help prevent the problem. Whereas new stocks would erase the problem straight out. But like you said, it is a big cost difference...

Well, it depends on if you're trying to eliminate or reduce bump steer as in your first post and question. That being the case, only the SS will help, not the shocks which affect the rebound/compression (vertical) movement, not lateral...
