KC Daylighter Relay

KC Daylighter Relay - 07/03/01 10:40 AM

I have two 150WATT KC Daylighters installed and working great until two weeks ago. I've narrowed it down to the relay. Are those pretty standard relays that I can pick up at the local Auto Parts store or should I be contacing KC?

Thanks in advance.

Go to Radio Shack and get a $5.00 30 amp auto relay. It will work fine.

If there are 4 relay terminals and they are
labeled 30,85,86 and 87 then it is a normal SPST "Bosch" type relay. The Radio Shack part mentioned above (#275-226, $5.99) will work in this case.
Not all "Bosch" relays are created equal. The Radio Shack unit is rated for 30 Amps. Some of this type are rated for 40 amps.

Incandescent lamps are especially hard on relays because their cold turn-on current peaks at around 10 times their running current. This means about 250 amps peak current to turn on your lights that normally draw only 25 amps.

I agree with Bayou Boy. I have three of the Radio Shack relays in my "X" for a set of fog lights on the front bumber and two sets of long range lights on top. I have had no problems with them. I installed them using instructions found at KC HiLights
Good Luck
