GOX and Moab

GOX and Moab - 29/05/02 11:28 PM

Are there any set plans for a group of people hit Moab the latter part of GOX week? I need to make KOA reservation in Ouray and need to know how long to book for. I'd like to hit Moab, but would like to do it with a group since it'll be my first time.

Andy,

Some of us SCCX members are planning on visiting Moab again for a few days before and after GOX3 on the weekends. Some UXOC members have indicate they would be interested also so we will mostly likely be running with them since its their home turf and we're friends from previous trips among other things.

For what we're calling the “A” side of GOX3 tentative scheduled for 8/31-9/1 the trails people has showed interested so far are: Kane Creek Canyon, Cliff Hanger, Elephant Hill, and maybe parts of White Rim in Canyonlands NP.

For the “B” side on 9/7-8 the trails under consideration so far include Hell's revenge, Poison Spider, Golden Spike, Gold bar Rim, {edit} some might be arriving in Moab on Friday 9/6 and making a local warm-up run in the afternoon to Fins or maybe Steel Bender {edit}

Your welcome to join us smile any areas/trails in particular you're interested in?

I'm planning on hitting Moab on Sept 6-7. Do some biking riding and maybe some wheeling.

I won't be able to do the "A" side trails and doing the "B" side trails might be a problems as well. I was hoping on using that Sunday as my drive home day. I'll be coming of a 2 week cross country trip and I'll be looking forward to sleeping in my own bed. Plus the fact that I don't think I could get that extra day off on Monday.

I was hoping some people might be there Thursday or Friday. Any idea how long it takes to get from Ouray to Moab?

Add at least one from the midwest to run the "A" side. I was planning on being there anyway, it is just more fun while running with a group.

Andy,

I'll be leaving Ouray and going to Moab on friday the 6th, maybe we can work something out?

I believe it's 2-3 hours from Ouray to Moab.

Bummer, you miss the fun day on Poughkeepsie frown

It is almost 4 hours back to Moab. A very scenic drive, with one hell of a hill climb near the border.

Ian, Did the itinerary change?

The only reason I was planning on Moab for friday is because it didn't look like anything was happening on friday.

True, true... laugh

I think we're actually going to Powell for a week of drunken partying on a houseboat right after GOX.
It's going to be a long 2 weeks.

You guy's also have a football team, oh yes they too soon would like to join the "Lakers", who I think once also inhabited the land of 10,000 lakes.

The guys in Utah even get to us in Colorado. Just take a run to Moab, sheesh. :p

I would recommend not attempting Cliff Hanger.
You guys had quite a few problems on Golden Spike, and Cliff Hanger is just as difficult for a limited vehicle like the Xterra, if not more so.

Imagine the section on Golden Spike where the Unimogs caught up, but going up the 3 foot ledge instead of down it, only 10 feet wide with a 1000 foot drop off to the right side.

If you get stuck at this spot, there is no way out of the trail.
