dumb question... - 07/05/03 11:57 PM

This might sound like a stupid question or it might be aready asked, but can you put a super charger on a 2wd?

If so what would be the best to go with?

You can - but it's not going to be cheap, it's not going to be easy and right now you're limited to the one that Paxton makes specially for Nissan that's in the factory SC models.

Honestly, you'd be better off just trading in for an SC model.

... not to mention that you will completely lose any warranty on your engine if you put in an aftermarket SC.

At least with the factory SC you're covered.

Itchin' for more power are we? wink

Non-Supercharged is fine with me...I get lots of power and "get up and go" with my 5-speed...not to sound rude, but you should have gotten what you REALLY wanted when you went to the dealer...you should have done your homework and test drove ALL models before you purchased your present X....

I thought some company in Austin made an SC for the 3.3 liter nissan engine... someone posted about it somewhere around here.

And, yes, you can put an SC on anything you want to... I use mine all the time driving to work on I75 (see my sig).

Don't be suprised at the gas mileage hit and extra expense that running super unleaded brings however.... especially if you live in Canada or California. smile I'm enjoying $1.45 a gallon for 93 at Sams right now, to be sure!

Re: dumb question... - 09/05/03 03:10 PM

oh no, you misunderstood... your warranty will be toast...

a supercharger will void any warranty on the engine and likely on the transmission as well...

i forget what company made it but yes it was a texas based company... do a search in the performance forum for "after market SC" you should find something

-------edited to add----------

you love me... i just saved you the trouble...

thread from performance forum

Company name is Alpine Developments
The kit is not cheap...

for just $2,900(Plus Labor for install) you will completely obliterate any warranty on your engine and have no hope in hell of passing smog in restrictive staes(its not CARB certified)

Once again. if you want an SC Xterrra, trade in your existing one and upgrade. It's the only way you'll get a reasonably priced, smog legal, fully warranteed truck.

you have a 2002, so your xterra is somewhat kind of new. if you really feel you didn't get what you really wanted originally (being the supercharger, 4wd, etc) you should take your chance now and trade it in for what you want. the longer you wait, the older and higher-mileaged your xterra will be.
i don't know anyhting about the aftermarket s/c that's been mentioned above, but with the factory s/c, it's a noticable difference but don't think it'll transform your xterra into something it's not already.
if you want to talk about trading in your xterra and getting something different, consider getting 4wd. that's something (if you offroad) that will make a much greater difference than a supercharger. 4wd will open your xterra up to more opportunities and options as an suv. with the factory s/c, let's be honest, it takes more than 30 hp to transform a 4000 lb truck.
