elocker rehash - 29/01/04 10:03 AM

I searched quite a bit, but info on the elockers was old. Maybe I missed the defining "yes" or "no" answer somewhere.

Any news if eaton will ever bring them out for the X? The only apps I see on their site is for Fords and GM's.

Last word I had direct from the Eaton Torque Control Products Division was a Spring '05 release, but I have not conversed with them in over a year.

Wow, spring 05? Long time since their scheduled 02 release. The X will be a new model by then.

Thanks for the info!

Just a thought - any chance the locker in the new Xterra/Fronty will be compatable w/ the current axle? I suppose the rear axle will probably be different on the new one...

Don't know the spec on the 05 rear axle yet, but my gut tells me the H233b won't be it. Looking at a couple of photos of the 05 Frontier, the silhouette of the rear diff does not look like the H233b to me, the drain plug is either not visible or looks to be centered. The H233b plug is pretty obvious and on the right side.

Front and rear diffs should be Dana 44s on the next Xterra. Then it won't matter about Eaton because there will be plenty of options.

I don't think we'll ever see an Eaton locker. Eaton developed one for Nissan, but Nissan told them to take a hike and went with a Japanese company for the factory units that are coming. I think Eaton pretty much said "screw it" and dropped the program after that. That's what one of the guys from Nissan told me last summer anyway. Rather disappointing to say the least. frown

I will see what's new that I can find out. I work for Eaton (albeit a different division).

Here is what they told me..

Chris:

We do not currently have any firm plans for manufacturing the Eaton
ELocker(TM) differential for Nissan axles.
