Broken shocks on '02

After parking my X in the driveway I heard a hissing and gurggling (sp?) noise. I looked under the back and was dumbfounded to see my shock pissing out fluid right above the lower bolt lug. Yes, i checked to see if itwas coming out of the piston cylinder seal. Everything above the lug was dry. I have not offroaded in months nor drove over any moderate pot holes. What could have caused this? Next day, I found the shock completely separated from the bolt lug. Obviously the lug was cracked, but why? mike

Stock Nissan shocks totaly suck..Although I replaced my suspension when my truck was still new.I gave my stock shocks to a friend that used them for about 2 years and they feel apart and badly.

But you have a 2002 and those shocks are roughly 5 years old.So you can say they lived their life.

As you "Looked under the back"...I assume this was a rear shock?

If so - was it the Passenger side shock?

If so, did you remove the rear way bar...or leave it on?

Been there. My OEM shocks sheared off at the bottom eye on the passenger side. Might have been a small crack at the weld that just finally let loose on yours. You options are pretty much open for a decent pair of shocks now. The Bilstien 5100 or 5150 will work fine.

Yeah - those are excellent shocks...get the ones for the 3" lift though...they'll fit a stock height X, so you won't have to get new shocks if you lift later.

Any ride quality problems with the 3" lift shocks?

none at all, they have digressive valving so you don't have to adjust them for different road conditions, etc...and they will damp the rod length w/o a problem.

Remember, the shocks do not provide the lift...just damp the motion, and the shocks for the lift are merely able to extend longer than the stock ones can, as needed.

Hello, You may also research the New Monroe Reflex shocks. (might be cheaper than Bilstains and maybe the right performance for you? ...Aloha

The Monroes are too short though, and would hurt performance on and off road, not handle as well, or damp as well as the bils, but WOULD be cheaper.

Off hand, I can't see getting them, especially as you off road, and they'd hold you back....and not also work if you do a a lift later, etc.

A freind tried them as a stop gap when the one's they ordered were delayed...said they were about like the stock shocks, maybe a little worse in extension, and the rebound valving was too soft, the compression valving was about stock.
