goneRubicon '03 ??? - 27/09/02 02:31 PM

I read through recent posts about the Calmini steering system and it sounds like some of you guys want to run the Rubicon.

Even though I don't own an X, I'm game. I've done from Loon Lake to Walker Hill (last named obstacle before Little Sluice), and sustained no body damage to that point. Getting back out was a different story though!

If you want to go, let's set something up and give it a shot. Although it would probably have to be next August or September because it's gonna be gettin' dark too early... frown

As minimum requirements, I would suggest auto tranny with at least 2.02:1 or manual tranny with 3.6:1, 3" lift, one locked axle, rock sliders, skid plates, winch, and 31" tires.

Be willing to sustain damage to the rear bumper corners as well. If you're careful (don't use excessive go-pedal) you should be able to make it without breaking anything.

As for bypasses, there are only 2: bypass the "GateKeeper" at the Loon Lake slabs and bypass the "Little Sluice" which is completely unrunnable for anything with tires smaller than 35".

In typical Ian fashion, he will most certainly poo-poo the idea, but I'd like to see someone prove him wrong. There's no reason why anyone should break parts with a properly built Xterra [or Pathfinder] if you are spotted well and drive wisely.

Nope, I'm all for it.

Considering you only drove the easiest 1/10th of the trail and had problems, people might want to find someone more familiar and skilled with the trail before attempting it.

Check with CALMINI about using the "gone" name before you get it all planned out.

I am confused. I thought that XOC "owned" the GONE name? and Calmini was a sponsor. Is it the other way around?

UNOTHAT I'm game laugh I was thinking sometime in July or Aug of 03’

So far I also heard of interest from ClimberRN, Twitch, MVM, some of the AZ Swanky crew, and a few other Nissan wheelers I’ve talk to up north. Perhaps CALMINI, NISSAN, N4W, NOR, and others will want to get involved and we can have one kick ass event with the whole nine yards. Doesn’t really matter what we call the run?

Yeah, we will have to refine the minimum requirements list, keep the numbers managable and all but I've talked to plenty of people who have run it, watched the video several times, studied photos, and I’m pretty sure properly built 4wd Nissans can make successful runs. IFS rigs of course will have to bypass the “little sluice” and some body/bumper damage could happen but other than it will be one hell of a good time smile

I’m thinking the “Con” will take 3 days to run if we take our time & enjoy. We could hit some other cool trails in/around Lake Tahoe before/after. The preferred dates for me are 7/16-23 or 8/6-13 right now.

I'm willing to get involved/help organize and I'm sure I can get some other 'Con Wheelin' Vets that I know to join us.

I don't think you're allowed to call it the "Con" until after you've driven it...

If we're not exhausted from running the Rubicon, and there's no breakage!

The preferred date really depends on the snowpack. I don't think it melted until around mid July this year; we'll have to wait and see.

Wow...

That makes at least 4 "major" Xterra/Nissan events for next year:
goneMOAB (April)
"whatever"Rubicon (July/August)
GOX4 (September)
WESTX (October)

Mark your calendars now!

You guy's know I'm game... I'll be ready for it buy next year ( gears locker ect.). It's been 6 years since I've done Rubi so we would definatly need someone who's done it recently to lead. This is a good idea Dean, no matter what we call it.
