Desperate!!!!

Hello. I absolutly HATE my Xterra. I'm desperate to sell it but have had no luck listing it locally. There is absolutly nothing wrong with it, in fact it is as good as new, they just aren't real popular around here, and unfortunatly when I bought it brand new I got ripped off and paid way to much, so I'm burried it it, but at this point I will take a hit if I have to. Here is what I got:
2004 Xterra SE 4X4, Black
Automatic transmission, roof rack, running boards, tinted glass, power windows, power locks
Runs perfect, looks perfect, been on 2 long roadtrips, but mostly sat in the garage for the short time I've owned it, I just really don't like it at all.
I'm open to offers, I just want out of it.
If anyone out there is interested let me know, and I'll e-mail pictures to you. I'll even deliver to some places.
Thanks everyone!

Why do you HATE it so much? Because it is not popular? What is so bad about it? I will give ya $10,000 cash and pick it up from ya.

Actually the fact it's not popular is what made me look at it in the 1st place. The problem is the gas mileage, and the lack of "high end power" I will confess that this thing as a lot of low end, torqe type power, but I went from a sports car to this and can't handle going this slow.
And $10,000. Come on, this is a '04, and it's not the shitty little XE 4 cyl base model. I'm desperate, but not stupid. But thanks for the reply!

Mileage as of right now is 7895, but ALL highway. I really need to get 25,000 but I would consider the 24,000 range maybe a little lower. I paid 27,000 for it new. and still owe about 26,500, I've only had it 4 months.

Yeah, I've tried to trade it, but no dealership this side of the Mississippi want's to give me more than $15,000 for it (too many on the lots as it is) so I thought I would try a bigger audience. I'm getting ready to drive it off a cliff to avoid having to put gas it it again.

I think I'll put another spin on things here. I LOVE my Xterra... I ran into some financial problems due to losing my job last year and the only hope I had in keeping the Xterra was to refinance it. I would shoot myself in the head before I'd let the Xterra get away! Well, at 5 years and 108K miles I figured it would be impossible to get a decent refinance on it. WRONG! The X Blue Booked at $14,225 and I was able to get a 4.5% loan on it, which was way better than my original loan. Anyway, my point here is that the Xterra holds it's value quite well so if you can hold onto it for at least a little while then you should be able to get ahead on your payments enough to get rid of it. I can't imagine anyone hating their Xterra that much! I went from cars to the Xterra too and I just adjusted to it. Now even the Xterra feels like a go cart to me! ![[LOL]](graemlins/lol.gif)

I have considered holding on to it a little longer, but the thought of making a payment on something that sits in the garage instead of being driven, just kills me. In the mean time, I'm racking up the miles on my vette, and driving by the new Silverado I want, instead of in it.
What can I say, I'm a girl who knows what she likes and this is not it. It has to be hands down, the most gutless vehicle I have ever driven let alone owned. It's driving me insane. I also have a really big issue with the fact that it is foriegn. I still can't believe I broke down and bought something other than a Chevy in the first place (I'm a chevy girl, this is the 1st vehicle w/ 4 wheels I have ever owned that's not a one) I just want it out of my Garage.

I'm only getting 8-9 mpg out of it. I've got almost 7900 miles, so I'm pretty sure it's broke in by now. I'm using premium gas, but I did try a tank of regular unleaded to see if it made a difference and it made it worse. I'm using syn oil to try to help, which brought it up a little (like 2 mpg), and I tried using that tornado thing, but it didn't help. Frankly, I didn't do much more cause the gas is the least of me issues. As you'll see in another reply on this disscussion, my hatred for this thing runs much deeper than that.

I never hated my X (quite the opposite--just some minor grumbling from time to time generally bitching about inadequate power ![[Laughing]](graemlins/laughing.gif) ), but can certainly appreciate what your saying. Depending on the mileage you should be able to get 19-20k for it in trade. whenever you trade out of a vehicle this soon after buying it, you take a hit of at least 5k. I see you are in Reno? Head back to NoR and swap it for something closer to your liking...just realize that you will most likely HAVE to keep what you get for a while. I would check out the Titan if you want power (but anything with a more modern drivetrain would give you that)...and I don't know what you were getting for mileage in the X, but mine consistantly got 12. The Titan so far is getting 19 mpg and I'm not going light on the pedal. Anyhoo, PM me if you need a name of someone to talk to at the dealer as I know a few of them (Nissan freak that I am...) ![[Wave]](graemlins/wave.gif)

This whole thing has taught me a lesson though... I'm a young female, so I think they saw that as an opportunity to rip me off, but never the less, I let it happen, but I can say that it will never happen again. That's part of the reason I still have it, I'm waiting to get the best deal I can, and waiting for those dealer rebates to help with the negative equity in the X.

That's about all you can do...I would try to time it before the 05's hit. You might try shopping for the truck you want on the web (i.e. having several dealer within say 100 miles send you quotes) It's what I did and I got a price of $22,700 after the rebate on what I got. You can work a deal with the trade and financing after finding the vehicle and getting a price. Good luck either way (any dealer). Oh, and I would have got a Chevy, but they are a little down on power ![[Spit]](graemlins/spit.gif)

You're getting 8-9 mpg?! That doesn't sound right. Well, maybe it is if it's all city driving and you're flooring it from stoplight to stoplight. If not, then that just doesn't sound right.
You live in Reno which is a stones throw from the best off roading in the west. It's a 4x4, take if off roading and you'll care less about the power. My 4runner has soooo much less power than the xterra but I really don't care because it's so much fun to wheel.

A brand new X will not get mileage like that unless you are beating the shit out of it. Regardless, it's not the fault of the truck... it's a niche vehicle that does a great job filling that niche. Bottom line is that you are stuck with an impulse buy that YOU made and there is no easy way out. Anyone can go buy a brand new X for the money you want to get for yours (and BTW, going on about how shitty your X is in various forums will not attract potential buyers). The quickest fix for you would be to visit your local Chevy dealer, trade in your X, and use the generous GM factory rebates to help offset your negative equity. Just research your next vehicle more thoroughly before signing on the dotted line.

Rev'n -that's what it sounded like to me too. They took advantage of me...I went to car dealer...a place that sold cars, and I was SO excited about buying it, that I didn't notice that the only thing I like about driving is not being supplied by what I'm driving...when I went to test drive it to make sure that I would want to buy it? - So those bad evil naughty dealers took advantage of my stupidity/lack of judgement/blondness/excitement over something that has yet to be identified... (Check-off as appropriate)...and sold me the truck I wanted really badly so much that I ignored whatever contrary information I had. That makes the dealers very naughty. Can you imagine? I think the dealer, seeing how much she wanted the truck after researching it, looking at it, and test driving it, and being very excited about buying the truck, and making an offer to buy it, should have refused to sell it to her. He obviously made a half hearted attempt to discourage her by raising the price, but it just didn't work. So - Its the dealers fault.

Funny thing is, most of the drivers were smiling! Good luck on selling it, but when you go to buy your next vehicle, THINK while you are test driving it. If it is as slow as you say, it must have taken hours to complete your 'long' test drive! I think that you should have noticed ...

Next to home ownership, buying a vehicle is the largest purchase most people will make, yet people treat it in a cavalier manner, doing little to no research and getting bent over at the local dealership without a second thought. Here's some advice before you change vehicles again - do some research. Rent or borrow the vehicle you think you want and drive it around for a while. Heck, a test drive could have told you all you needed to know about acceleration in the X. Also check out a good site like http://www.carbuyingtips.com to learn how not to get taken at the dealership - sounds like you could REALLY stand to read up. A few nights of reading for several thousand dollars in savings isn't really a bad trade - but it's your money. It has to be hands down, the most gutless vehicle I have ever driven let alone owned. I dunno, I've had pleanty of gutless GM vehicles - oldsmobile Cutlass that was a total piece of junk. My parents '81 GMC High Sierra pickup was gutless - amazingly reliably for early '80s GM vehicle, but gutless. And lets not even get started about the '95 Jimmy :p It's driving me insane. I also have a really big issue with the fact that it is foriegn. Now this is just plain stupid - you knew it was produced by a foriegn manufacturer (they are actually built in Tennesee with majority domestically produced parts) before you bought it - no one's fault for your irrational prejudice than yourself. I still can't believe I broke down and bought something other than a Chevy in the first place (I'm a chevy girl, this is the 1st vehicle w/ 4 wheels I have ever owned that's not a one) I just want it out of my Garage. Well, we come to the real issue - nothing but Chevy will be good enough. If you really are looking at getting a new truck, and interested in being objective instead of emotional, Chevy is currently on the bottom of every major review of current trucks out there. The Nissan Titan and Ford F150 are on top, with Dodge in the middle. But heavens, don't let us confuse you with the facts I can't have much sympathy for you. The X really isn't that bad of a vehicle. Yeah, it doesn't accelerate like a sports car (or a car) but lets see - yeah, IT'S A TRUCK. And not all X's are pokey, mine beats pleanty of vehicles off the line but that's just a silly expectation for a truck. Sounds like you got bit by unrealistic expectations and not doing your homework. No one should be unhappy with their purchase. The true halmark of wisdom is learning from your mistakes and not repeating them - do your reasearch, read a site like http://www.carbuyingtips.com and move on... Really, how much sympathy did you expect here of all places? List it on Autotrader and if you are that desperate, you are just going to have to eat it :p

What is your strategy? You need to have it in detail, preferably written out, and need to understand fully all aspects of the pricing for the vehicle you want.

You are in Reno... you should visit here:
http://www.xterraownersclub.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=13;t=000873
Maybe the positive atmosphere will change your feelings - or you will sucker someone into the atmoshere and buy it off you.

The ones when I lived in Vegas were the pits. Just varies unfortunatly. Check out this thread for a good strategy, and this thread for a sample fax to use. Good luck...

Anyhoo, PM me if you need a name of someone to talk to at the dealer as I know a few of them (Nissan freak that I am...) Well thank you for the advice and the offer of help with the dealers, but I think I'm going to stick to my Chevys from ow on. They have never let me down. This whole thing has taught me a lesson though... I'm a young female, so I think they saw that as an opportunity to rip me off, but never the less, I let it happen, but I can say that it will never happen again. That's part of the reason I still have it, I'm waiting to get the best deal I can, and waiting for those dealer rebates to help with the negative equity in the X.[/b]Just get a smart man to make your decisions for you. Not only would he have not paid so much, he woulda bought you the VW Beetle you probably shoulda ended up with in the first place! Advice: Drive to Colorado and trade in your X. The resale value here is excellent. Bring somebody smart with you so you don't get swindled again.

If you're getting 8mpg something is wrong - take it to a mechanic.
If you sell it you're going to lose a lot of money. Maybe you'll learn something from this experience.

The money you will lose on it would buy a lot of gas.

Why didn't you at least get the supercharged model? I paid $19K for my '02 (in May of '03, so less than a year) for my SE/SC w/ 9K miles. Now you will be battling against the new '05 generation coming any day and you are way upside down. Have someone steal it.

I know what you are going through. I'm selling my '72 K-20 because I need a dependable vehicle with four wheel drive. This thing is a gas hog and will never be as mean as my Chevy beast, but with the super charger and intake/exhaust mods, it's almost as quick.

well, after replying quickly for the first couple days of this thread, the author seems to have realized her stupidity and dropped off of the forum. to highlight a few of the stupid points she had: 1. losing to geo metros in stoplight races 2. getting 8-9 mpg with almost entirely highway miles (are you SURE the parking brake isn't on) 3. complaining that she can't sell her car for $24-25K when it has a book value of $21K 4. complaining about purchasing a foreign car that probably has as many domestic parts (if not more) than the chevy's she loves so much 5. complaining about paying WAY too much for the car. (where was your brain when you signed the paperwork?) need i say more? ![[Crybaby]](graemlins/crybaby.gif)

Alot of Dodge Rams are actually made in Fenton Missouri. about 12 Miles outside of Saint Louis. Only a very small percentage are made in Mexico. Parts however come from Canada, Mexico, Europe and All over. The car manufacturers have lists of what percentage is done where.

As for anyone paying too much or not getting enough for their Nissan, this here internet thing works wonders for saving a buck or a few thousand. I bought my 2003 SE/SC after looking for months. Common sense says says use every available resource....or get your dad to do it!

Really wants a Chevy Silverado, but complains about the gas mileage of the Xterra? I work for a company that has a fleets of full size pickups, and they get about 8-10 mpg on average.
Says that one of the reasons she bought an Xterra because it was an unpopular vehicle, and then she says that the dealer won't give her a decent amount for a trade because there are so many Xterras around?
I'm sure the reason she's so upset about the power of the Xterra is she's comparing it to her Corvette. By the way, a Corvette in Reno? I'm sure it's the Corvette that sits in the garage all the time. It snows like mad in Reno.

Oh man....don't get me started on Chevy!!!! I had a 1995 S-10 Pickup I purchased brand new that was a piece of crap from day one. I paid cash for it and prior to this hunk of junk had a great experience with a Chevy Caprice Classic (which was made in Canada- probably one of the reasons it actually ran). To add insult to injury, the 1995 S-10 Blazers and Pickups all had that new antifreeze that is supposed to last forever (I know not really--but a lonng time) and all it does/did was corrode the coolant system. I had 107K on mine, had three freeze plugs replaced with the prospect of having to replace quite a few more. I took care of this thing like a baby and maintained it well. Imagine what would have happened if I beat on it! I love my new X so much more then that piece of crap. I will never buy a Chevy again!
