Just got the x back from the dealership. I had my first oil change done yaayy. They fixed the terrible rattle they left behind last time they fixed it. Windows regulator was fixed and they didnt tighting somthing up. They took of my heat shield 2 weeks ago saying that was the rattle, it did improve but still little rattle right before its shifts. I brought the guy out and showed him the noise he heard it said they would take care of it. Driving off I started driving and what do you know its still making the sound wtf they will get a nice call from me tomm.

Had the same type of problem mad ......my X is a 2000 so it may be different......I found a couple heat shields that had the holes for the bolts corroded out and were loose and rattling. The floor has additional metal sheilds attached to the floor so the loss of a heat sheild is not a huge deal for me.......might be if you live in california or florida or somewhere very warm though......not here in Newfoundland [Freak] . I just went under and took them off myself.....I think 3 peices in total. frown They aren't cheap either if you get into replacing 3 or 4 of them.

No, since it's preventing heat from travelling upward to the passenger compartment.

I would ask your Nissan dealership to put the heatshield back on, it's there for a reason. Simply removing something because it rattles is not a solution.

For once in my car buying career I would like to say my dealership is not that bad. I called up and told about the rattle, they told me to bring it back down. Talking to the mechanic he put a foam piece in and it stopped the rattle alot so you can barely hear it now. I was somewhat satisfied but they insisted they take it the whole nine yards and get it takin care of. Most places just push you away when they dont get money out of it.

Foam & heatsheid! hmmmmmmmm.... Isn't that a fire risk? Wait, if you stuff some old newspaper down there that would stop the rattle too!

if your rattle is still there, you might be having the same problem I had, and am still having. They also claimed my rattling was a heat shield, but it wasn't. Upon inspection i found that the hardware holding the left catalytic converter was badly rusted and rattling like crazy, and the cat itself was rattling too. Have a look under your car and see if that's it, i wouldn't be surprised. At first I thought the car was detonating, ruled that out. then i thought it was something in the engine compartment rattling, nope. dealer said it was a heat shield... nope. try the catalytic converter(s)
