Regular and proper tire rotation promotes uniform wear. All-season tires should be rotated in a "modified X" pattern, meaning only the tires being moved to the drive axle are crossed to the opposite side of the vehicle. The remaining two tires are moved from the drive axle to the free rolling axle, remaining on the same side of the vehicle. This method of rotation helps promote even and uniform treadwear pattern for all four tires.
The only exception to this would be the use of "directional" tires. These tires should remain on the same side of the vehicle and be rotated straight forward and straight back. If you have a four-wheel drive vehicle, we recommend crossing both pairs of tires to their new axle positions.
We recommend tire rotation at least every 6,000 miles. It is a good idea to rotate four-wheel drive vehicles every 4,000 miles.(the most important part of this quote) Check your vehicle owner's manual for the manufacturer's rotation recommendations.
hope that helps.
some manufacturers do recomend a 5 tire rotation, but it is uncommon due to vehicles either not being equiped with a full sized spare or a steel full sized spare that doesnt match the other 4. it will however make you tires wear slower by doing this, and you wouldnt be left with an oddball tire when you got to replace the other 4.
ie: you have 5 revo's decide, you didnt like them, and you go buy 5 wranglers, if you didnt do a 5 tire rotate your truck, now your stuck with an xtra, and more than likely, expensive tire.
either way it will not damage anything, mostly it come down to personal preference.
