basic ? is.... is it as easy to bled the brakes ona car as it is on a motorcycle?

more in depth info

i had to replace the front brake pads on the X when they were well worn. In doing so i replaced them with some real thick pads reccommended for the X from autozone . To fit them in I had to push the pistons, with a vise grip on the calipers way back which in turn i had to open the brake fluid reservoir in the engine to allow the fluid to back up.

The next 3 days were fine , car braked great.

Now afer 3 weeks of not driving the car I get in and it seems as if the brakes are real spongy.

i figure i need to replace the brake fluid/ bleed the brakes.

Any other thoughts before i open this can of worms?? or use tidbits of advice before i do this?
did i do something incorrectly??

Try bleeding the brakes. It isn't very hard and only takes a few minutes to do it.

i would bleed the brakes which you already mentioned.

if you have 2 people its easier,(if you dont have a buddy to help with this process use a broom stick or a 2x4) but if you dont it can be done. i dont know if its the same as on a motorcycle, because i never had to do it to mine. anyways...

get the front end off the ground.(with wheel blocks and e-brake on)

remove both wheels

turn the steering wheel to the side you want to do first.

(i think it a 8 mil. closed end wrench for the bleeder vavle.)
pump the brake pedal five times. use either a buddy or a 2x4 to hold the pedal down.

release the bleeder valve (watch out cause its gonna fly)and then close it when the stream of brake fluid slows down.

i would do this twice to each side.

put everything back together, fill the brake fluid and take it for a spin.

This link explains it. It is a great tool for bleeding brakes if you want to spend the bucks.

Speaking of bleeding the brakes, the service manual (2002 Xterra) lists a bleed order of

Left Rear
Right Rear
Left Front
Right Front

Is this as if you're sitting in the drivers seat?? Is that the standard point of origin??

Drivers side is always the left side.
