I have read several things on here about the 2002 models having a Rockford Fosgate Sys. Also in the pamphlet I got from the dealer there was a pic of the head unit and it was stamped with the RF logo. My 2002SE (not SC) doesn't have this stamp. I was just wondering what the deal is. Also, I think the front speakers sound fine, but I notice that the rear door speakers and the ones in the very back tend to rattle and buzz a little at higher volumes. what should I do? I've already tried the search feature on here, but it didn't seem to really answer my questions! :rolleyes: Thanks in advance my fellow X-ers!!

I am in the Coast Guard and am currently underway on patrol and it has been a WHILE since I have seen my X so I am not too clear if I have speakers in the rear doors or not. Thought I did...hmmm....been underway too long , memorie's...fading.....Anyway, there is a buzzing noise coming from somewhere aft of the front seats!!! Sorry for any mix-up or confusion

The headunit is not a RF. They only make the amp, which allows them to place a logo wherever.

Is the sound always there, only with the radio or cd's or is it more of engine whine? More details would be helpful, but not as helpful as new speakers would be

I'm not even really sure I would call it a "sound"...More like "degredation of sound quality". When ever I turn it up and the bass hits, the back speakers sound like s***. Sittin in the drive way, highway, dirt road...makes no differance.

The only thing I have done is to adjust the balance(?) so that more sound comes from the front spkrs. I don't put it all the way fwd, but just enough so I can't hear the rear ones rattle

I have the 2002 SE/SC and the back speakers sounded ok to me. But now with the sealed 12" sub, I can't hear a thing back there except boooom.

I believe the frontiers have the Fosgate systems in them....

I believe the head unit is made by Clarion. Let me check where I got that info...

I thought RF also made the speakers?? I could be wrong. I do have to say I was all hyped up for the RF system only to be deeply disappointed. I guess I will have to work on adding aftermarket speakers and a decent amp.

did you ever figure out where you heard the head unit was a Clarion? I am interested because I have thought about taking the thing apart and seeing if I can rig something up to use as an input for separate mp3 player. I have read on other posts that people have done this for other stereos but every model is different. I haven't really had the time to pull the thing apart to check back there and see what is going on yet. Plus, I honestly dont relish the idea of dismantling it to find out that I can't do anything with it. Anyway, let me know if you do find out who makes it for sure, maybe I can figure out what model it is and what sort of DIN it has in the back.

To the original post: It sounds like you're hearing alot of distortion thru your speakers. Did you burn your own CDR or does the radio also sound that way? The 1st thing I'd do is take it back to the dealership. Maybe they punched a hole in the speaker during installation. Has it always sounded that way, if not then you may have a rear amp IC gone bad inside the stereo. Several things could be wrong, but its hard for any of us to help w/o actually hearing for ourselves.
As for the post about taking a look behind the dash at your stereo, good luck. I tried to connect a simple antenna booster to mine, and had to 1/2 way disassemble my whole dash. 1st from the right side, then from the left, only to find out that the antenna connector was " screwed in" to the back of the stereo. I tried everyway in the world to unscrew it, but just didn't have enuf room....and I thought my Z Car was tight down there!

Clarion and Bose have a contract with Nissan, but the head unit has Matsushita staped on it. Panasonic made the speakers in the 01 at least, don't know about the 02's

The Head Unit is diffenitly Clarion in both the XE and SE. Its labeled Clarion on the back of the deck. Just an FYI incase you were still curious.

Panasonic also made the speakers for the '02. (got a set of Infinite Reference 6.5 at Fry's Elect. for only $50!) So I switched 'em out . . . I just had a feeling you were wondering!

Care to take a pic of one. I have yet to see a head unit labeled Clarion, and Lord only knows how many times I've taken mine out.

I just recently replaced my front speakers from my X and have them in front of me. They are Clarion SPB-904-100 2 ohms Max 50w and Nom 35w
