Anyone know if it is possible to add the OEM controls to the steering wheel if it did not originally have one installed?

If you have a 2004 SE (as your profile states) and it did not come with the steering wheel controls you need to take it back to Nissan and point out the problem as they are standard equipment on your Xterra.

Unless you think you have an SE and really have an XE, which has happened before on here.

From Nissan's website standard features for 2004 SE

Audio

Rockford Fosgate-powered audio system with AM/FM/in-dash 6-CD changer (300 watts)
Radio Data System (RDS)
Steering wheel-mounted audio controls
Eight speakers (six locations), including subwoofer

I have the XE version with the simple radio/single cd.

My question is is it possible to have the radio steering wheel controls added to my current configuration?

I had it in my last two or three nissan leases and really miss it.

The 2000 X has a little slot on the right side of the steering wheel. Was that meant to be a place for one?

Oops! Sorry for the misinformation. I do indeed have an XE and not an SE. Can I still add the radio controls?

No, the wiring isn't there for it. Just reach over the 18" to the dash, it's really not so hard...
