My husband changed the headlight in my X and now the light comes on on the dashboard when I turn the lights on at night. I thought that light was for the high beams. It never did that before when the lights were on. The person at the store sold us the wrong bulb because it didn't fit correctly. It's in but I'm not sure if it making the high beam come on on that side. Unfortunately I don't have the receipt because it faded in my wallet until it couldn't be read any more! I bought the light in JUNE and my husband finally got around to changing it. I did a search for changing headlights but didn't find anything. I know I should look in the manual but does anyone know if the light should be on?

Just to clarify - the high beam indicator is on when only the low beams are on?

In any event, if you installed the wrong bulb type I would buy the proper bulbs and replace them ASAP.

It's definately the wrong bulb. The high beam does not go on. The highbeam indicator on the dash reacts to the wrong wattage/whatever by lighting up (not sure exactly how it works, not much of an electrical egeneer). However you are risking frying your headlight socket. They tend to melt in a situation like this. However on my old car I had wrong bulbs installed and ran them for some time with no damage. I wouldn't risk it again though.

The 2001 owner's manual calls for a 9007 bulb, but it is incorrect. The correct bulb is a 9004. The 9007 is used on the 2002+ models.

I wonder if Nissan would pay for repair If you put the wrong bulb in per the manual?
