I have an 04 XE with the stock no name 6 speaker system. I need to improve it and a local dealer recomended that "for the $$, just adding the 10 inch tube in back ($550 installed) is the way to go. I wonder... I don't have a lot more than that to spend and I hesitate to be a DIY with the installation issues. Perhaps I should pick up other components on sale or at Ebay and hire someone privately to help with the installation.
All opinions welcome. Scott

I had my stock radio and speakers replace just a few weeks ago. I went to one guy and he told me all i needed was a powered sub in the rear. I ended up going to Tweeters and had the whole system replaced. Ended up with
Pioneer 5600MP head unit
Eclipse 5CH amp mounted on the rear of rear passenger seat
Alpine 6.5 component speakers for the front
Alpine 6X9 Rear
JL W0124 sub

Sounds great, Im glad I made the purchase

Bazooka tubes pretty much just add thump, though they do sound real nice. $550 sounds expensive to me though.

I'm in the same boat as you. I've decided to just piece it together part by part...head unit, speakers etc...as I have the extra money for it.

Edit to add..
bump this

On that same note... i have heard nothing but good things about this...

Infinity
its one ten, but hits like two.

I think that price quote is very high. for that amount a money you could buy an amp, sub and box.

crutchfield has very good do it yourself guides, if you are at all handy you should be able to do it!

I also purchased the infinity Basslink, I loved it for my car and it was real easy since the amp was bulit in and had a bass remote with it. I purchased it off of a store on E-bay and I ended up getting one (brand new with waranty) for about $199.00. I am not sure about installing it in my X however, I like being able to put my back seats down and sleeping in the back, I think the basslink will get in the way of the air mattress?

If you like to sleep in the back of the X, you are pretty limited as to what you can do... I havent put any subs in mine. Some people are putting a custom sub against the side of the cargo area and it looks like you can have the best of both worlds...

Just an FYI, Scion offers the Bazooka tube as an accessory, and I've blown four of them to date... just say no... you can pick up a small amp and sub for much less than $550 that will work much better... just go to Best Buy or something and check out the Rockford sub and amp... not the best, but you'll be much happier...

That price $550 is very high. A 10" powered Bazooka and vehicle-specific in-line harness for for my Tacoma only cost me $240 a year and a half ago. It was extremely simple to install and connect.

i have replaced every speeker in my x but the piller tweets and added 2 12's a amp and have only spent $400. just shop arround, and if you have flee markets sop them first, cause nice time out of ten, you can talk them down on prices. [Smoking]

Bazooka sucks.
Price sounds high.
I bought an 8" amplified tube four years ago for like $200 (online w/free shipping) and I installed it myself. POS never worked right but by the time I realized it wasn't my fault I couldn't return it.
I believe Bazooka has a forum and they also posted the same issue (bumps & thumps after you turn off your vehicle).
I've literally heard good things from an Infinity sub hooked up to an Accord stock radio.
I love bass.
