4x4 or 4x2, how many of you do this? Curb dividing parking lots? Center divider where you want to make a left turn? No exit from the parking lot? Road closed? Aren't these what high clearance is for? Don't get me wrong, We go off-roading whenever we can, but while we're(I'm, wife is much more law-abiding) in town...

I wouldn't do it too often. That sorta stuff, gives SUV owners a bad rep. laugh

Only the idiots.

You are doing nothing but giving SUV's and SUV drivers a bad name and breaking the law.

Your signature sums you up pretty well.

I did it once, just messing around. I have used 4x4 backing up over a big curb onto a friend's lawn to help him move. The grass was wet and the rear tires were slipping. I switched to 4x4 and the front tires gripped the curb and up I went. No slipping at all.

only when necessity dictates man.
i would have to agree with others in saying that those moves aren't really something you should make a habit out of.
and be careful who sees you doin' it, (i.e. cops.)

I went over a high concrete street divider, to get to a gas station that I needed to go to, cause I was running on fumes and was about to run out of gas...if not, I would have had to go a mile away for the nearest crossover, but I wouldn't do that just to do it....Emergency Only...

I've done it a few times just for fun and when no one is around. I also did it once or twice to get around during rush hour.

I once drove through a backyard bar-b-que because the light seemed to be stuck on red. Then I went across this guys lawn, over his flower bed, and then through the shallow end of his pool just to see what my "water" capabilities were. After that I decided to see what OFF road really meant and jumped the back of a semi over a river and them landed on top of a ferrarri.

No wait, that was Grand Theft Auto.

Come to think of it, I have never driven over a curb or median. laugh

Its nice to have this vehicle when they're ripping apart a parking lot or something and they still allow traffic through, but everyone else takes the "less gravelly and asphalt-chunked" route AROUND to get to the store. Its amazing how a manhole that sticks up 3 inches above the rest of the lot can scare the bejeezus out of a corvette or porsche owner....

Also, I don't consider it rude or illegal or "bad" during the winter months to take the "as the crow flies" route across the mall parking lot after they've pushed all the snow into the massive mounds that separate the parking corridors.... laugh

Sorry, you snuck your post in while I was typing mine.

I was referring instead to that extreme adventurer Ruger (he was the one asking about ratings in the Suggestions forum a couple weeks ago) . . .

Then you need a course in effective writing. Because your statement here gives the impression that, while you use your 4x4 as intended offroad, you also enjoy being a jack-off around town . . .

Many a year ago, when I was in high school, yes, I was guilty. Not so anymore, never even in the X, though it's a far better choice for it than a Buick wagon was... I thought it might bring some interesting responses, which it did. I'm actually pleasantly suprised by them, as I was half expecting to hear of it happening much more. As for the writing courses, you're probably right, as I reread I do come off sounding like I do this all the time. My apologies, In the future I'll try to phrase things better.

Dude, whatever. You're sorry for bringing this up -- say 50 Hail Mary's and post again in the morning. Just please avoid the center-divider left turns.

Haven't ever done it in my X but I think its legally exempt if the dork in front of you stops 50 feet behind the car in front of him so that you can almost squeeze into the left turn lane. Or you could always try a tap on the horn and a friendly smile. Just remember to wave or shout out a 'thanks' as you pass by.

this one time i ran over a parking curb in the back of a subway but i dont go looking for urban terrain, i wanted to see how easy the X could pull itself over it and i didnt even have to engage 4X4 but it was only about 4 inches high
