For anyone considering doing a SAS there is no other way to go. I’ve seen a number of front leaf projects (including Calmini’s Hardbody), and nothing compares to this SAS kit. I’ve been driving it for 10 months and it is rock solid.
While this kit is a bit more than doing a front leaf project yourself, save up and get this kit, you won’t be sorry.

with shipping, all of the parts, installation, a new axle, and getting an axle rebuilt, how much can i expect to pay by the end of getting this all done? i am very interested in getting this done, but i would like to know hwo much everyone else had paid since i will be on a tight budget
thanks

Tight budget and SAS should not be in the same sentence. I am 2 G's into my front axle so far and it is not even on my truck yet. Bottom line if you're worried about the expense then you can't afford it.

I did an estimation excluding shipping, and install. For the kit, basic spring pack, fox shocks, drivshaft, and sway bar system it will probably be roughly, 3500 dollars eek don't forget an axle gears hubs and all those goodies too. A tight budget has no place here. It needs to be a big budget with lots of room to stretch. But remind yourself when you pull out the credit cards that this is the only complete "bolt on" SAS kit on the market for the Xterra. And DesertHB's testimonial tell the quality.

The axle in bare form can be found for around 300.00

From there you can either pay someone gobs of money to rebuild it or save yourself some money and do it yourself.

That about the only part of the build where you can save money and that is just on the labor (which can be steep)

I just got the SLR 3'' SL, I geuss I will buy an axle and slooowly rebuild it, that way the wife cant quite see the expense. More that anything I need to mature as a "wheeler" with my current set up and once I exceed that then I will move up. But I will get my hands on an axle before there all gone. smile

Looking better all the time, rear springs are nice. [ThumbsUp]

Ok since I'm curious about specs and whatnot:

As set up on the CALMINI X, how much front and rear lift? Stock rear shackles or longer ones?

For those that maybe considering larger tires…say 34’s or 35’s do you have any recommendations?

If the sway bar arms can be sleeved/pinned or something so you can disconnect that would be a big plus for me.

BTW just finished up putting the front axle back together [ARB locker, 5.13 gears, super u-joints, the front arm mounts welded, etc ] just needs some paint and it’s ready to bolt-on laugh All the stock IFS parts are off and I just need to cut/grind the upper shock mount and the lower a-arm part and I’m ready to bolt the kit on smile

I’m recovering some of the cost by selling the stock stuff off but for a ballpark budget idea see below. [Pretty close to my original estimates]: http://www.xterraownersclub.com/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=9;t=000162

I paid $150 for a complete axle but I ended up replacing the balljoints, all the seals, bearings, and the tie-rods because they showed wear signs and where original. I also upgraded the u-joints and went with all new brake hardware.

Other than setting up the gears and welding twitch and I did all the work on the front axle, all together I think I put in about 7 hours of work [learning curve [Freak] ] a couple hours at a time. The axle flange and caliper mount bracket at the spindles where kind of a PITA to remove, took the longest ~ 1hr with a chisel and BFH. [You only need to do this if you're changing u-joints] Other than the spindle nut socket… 2 1/16” inner 4 prong, and 3/8” hex socket for the calipers I had all the tools already.

Thanks
Brian

Brian-

The lift over stock is 5" and the ride is amazing for this type of suspension. With the sway bars installed it handles just like factory.

The rear kit includes the same shackles that are used in the 3" suspension system (keep them!). The complete rear kit will also come with longer sway bar disconnects as the 3" units will not work.

If you are looking to run larger than 33" tall tires, body lifts and fender trimming are going to be the best/easiest route. Running 12" or longer coil-over shocks with this setup will cause extreme driveline problems for the front and rear. It would require much more custom fab work to operate properly.

The front sway bar mounts using heims at all points. It is intended to be run on the vehicle even while off-roading, however it could be removed easily by removing the bottom mount and strapping it to the pivot arm.

Good to hear that you almost have all of the stock parts off! As I am sure you can attest to, it isn't hard, it's just time consuming. The hardest part of the entire system is the removal of the factory components. Everything else bolts on.
