Ok, I hope I'm not beating a dead horse here, but I've read a LOT of stuff here about air filters (especially K&N) and see the mixed opinions. I think I have convinced myself not to get a CAI, but was curious about drop in filters.

SO, here's my question. Has anyone noticed if any drop in filter is "better"? I know the K&N and Fram Air Hog type are reusable, but after factoring the cost of re-oiling, is it still "cheaper"? Let me know. Thanks guys.

I used the Fram air hog for the first 10,000 miles, did pretty well after 2 "recharges". I did notice it being a little more peppy, but I would go with the K&N. My air hog developed a rip in the rubber and it would not seal properly, got it replaced and again it ripped, same place almost. Go with the K&N, nice try Fram, it had potential but materials seem cheaper to me. Of course this is all my opinion. However I do miss it when it did work since I do notice a difference now that im back to paper filters while im waiting on my K and N

I ran the K&N 60k and pulled it to clean/reoil. It looked like a 1/2 used paper filter. I'll clean it again after 50K more.

One thing about the K&N: don't get the one w/the lengthwise pleats. They're the old model and won't allow the airbox to reclip.
