I never said rock climing you would want a turbo. Perhaps in Beach/Baja it would be nice to have.
The supercharger may make 7psi but it is used ineficantley. 7psi on a turbo and superchager is FAR different. 40HP difference with the supercharger. A turbo TUNED corretly can surpase that number. Also End with more tourque. Than a STOCK Supercharged car. You dont have the turbocharger taking power to make its power. More Effeciant.
Intercooler will solve most of your heat issue. I still fail to see how a supercharger that takes power off the crank is far superior than a turbo.
Banks uses the turbo i was speaking about. And there are some smaller turbos that would do the same thing. A/R ratio is what gives peak boost.
A Supra is one variant of the turbo game. You could manipulate and play with diferent manifolds turbos until you built a no lag setup. it has been done.
Im not saying as far as practicality, there is no way a turbo would be usefull in the rocks. Although someone in WildYoats built a 4Runner with the Supra TT motor.
The Battle will rage on Turbo vs. Supercharger. Just dont confuse or misconstrue what i am saying. All Turbo setups are different. MY CRX turbo spools at 3K when the same turbo on my brothers Talon spooled at 3.5-4K. Its diferent variables. Different manifolds. Like i said if i had the time/Fab/Extra X. I would Build a Home MAde setup and see what is more beneficial. Thats why most car companies and performance companies are switching to turbo designs. The make a Sick amount of power.
As an Example. Just take a look a drag honduhs. They run 8 seconds with HUGE turbos, not roots style blowers which are made for Hondas. The Same with alot of the classes in NHRA besides the drag/Funny cars. Although AEM made a Drag car and it used the Supra Motor, Turboed. They Make HP Cheaper and they dont take HP to make HP. Limitations of the Pulley on the Supercharger and the fact that it spins by the power of the crank. Not Wasted Exhaust.
Now I know there are some people that could defend both sides. My point is that a TurboCharger would not go from 5-20psi with the slip of the throttle if tuned right.
Also It always depends on the aplication, and what you will be using it for. Again I AGREE teh TURBO has no place on a Xterra the Rock Crawls. But a Nice 2WD Beast would sure be fun.
