A turbo charger will take alot of the noise from the exhaust sound. Act something like a muffler. So a vehicle fitted with a turbo can have an exhaust that would be too loud for most people *if* that exhaust was used on a non-turbo application.
Now, lots of muffler makers just label "turbo" on a product because it sounds like a cool thing for those that don't know better.
A high flow performance muffler would be fine, but a *real turbo* muffler would get the cops attention. Unless you have a turbo-X.

dave and xtoy - and that's not likely

yeh im not sure if thats the name of the maker or the model,i guess ill call and ask, they told me that a flowmaster is not a good choice, although i've had them on american cars, this is the first non-american car i've had.and i've always liked them.

Get a Flowmaster 50 and have them replace the piping to 2 1/4'' or 2 1/2'' Flowmaster 50s give a nice deep, throaty sound.... don't get Flowmaster 40s, cause the sound they produce are alot more whiny and are suitable for smaller import cars (like Civis, Accords, Sentras, etc.) Ask them also if they can do a custom dual exhaust when replacing the pipes. I had mine replaced with 2 1/2'' pipes with rear dual exhaust (go with rear not sides, they'll look cooler). My install 'caused me $410 here in Los Angeles, CA.

Well I have 40 Series on my X, and it sounds great! I've had alot of positive remarks at my job. This is a great choice for a non-expensive system, although the 50 series is better, 40 sounds great!

will putting a 40 or 50 series flowmaster in my x fail emissions testing? i'm in Jersey and a shop told me that anything "hot rod" will not be good for the inspections and all that...

It shouldn't. A muffler does nothing for exhaust other than reduce noise. All the foul things going into the air are handled from the cat forward.

I meant the stock muffler doesn't do anything but decrease noise levels, it doesn't affect emissions in any way.
