I don't see why not, I've seen several pictures of rear exit exhausts on this site.

I don't see much advantage to it, however. There is the small risk of plugging up when backing into deep snow, and I saw on one site (Gibson's, I believe) that they don't recommend that you tow a trailer with a rear exhaust (due to fumes - maybe a bit of a stretch?).

Anyway, I went with a side-swept when I upgraded, but if you like the look of the straight pipes and don't find either of the factors above particularly troubling, go for it. smile

Here is my set-up. I have a Flowmaster Delta Flow 40 Series. I had the muffler shop bend a new tailpipe ran straight out the back. Being in So Cal I don't worry about backing into, too many snowbanks and since I pay attention to where I am backing I don't think I will have any troubles. I think it looks way trick this way. [ThumbsUp] However the picture is a bit off center so it looks crooked, [Freak] but the tip is straight.

edit: Here is a pic from another angle showing the tip a little better. Also gives a better idea of what it looks like from a standing postion.

I you do much 4-wheeling you may have to worry about the tip getting squished shut. When I had my new exhaust put on I let the installer know about it getting crunched (it was already bent up from previous trips). They cut it off just behind the bumper with a down turn to keep so the exhaust gets past the bumper.

Works great!

i think i am going to just end up getting the side exit exhaust just b/c its the factory one i all ready have. also the rear exit ones seem like you could back up into stuff and bend it.

I unfortunately don't have any pics, but I have a rear exit exhaust on my X with a Flowmaster 40. The tip of my exhaust sticks out about an inch from the bumper and still looks great. Hangs down just a hair enough for me to clean the tip and make it shiney. I carry a lot of things in the back of my X, so I wasn't worried about backing into anything, I was worried about walking into with a table in my hands. Rear exit all the way!

You could get it thru the bumper.

Here's one example from Calloway on a Rover:

If the bumper wasn't plastic, you could have a round hole in the bumper for the exhaust tip to get out. I know I've seen that before, but can't find any. That's more of a thing for a ricer or tuner, but still an option.

Snagged from the MAXC site, with apologies to "Cora." These pipes go through the face of the bumper...

Not sure how they are set up, but it certainly doesn't look "rice."

That's more what I was looking for when searching for pics, but all I could find was the rover picture. That setup is clean and the tailpipe is sure not to get damaged.

Gotta be careful about leaning against the bumper when you're getting into the cargo area, though - and it looks a bit ghetto (no offense intended to the proud owner).
