Hi, DH and I just bought a 2006 X tonight and traded in the 02 X. Can you please tell us if the o6 has a timing chain or belt? Thank you. wink

Timing Belt.... with a 2006, you should not have to worry about it for a long time. Good for 105K.

Are you SURE? Someone else asked the same question a couple days ago and they were told that it had a chain.

It should be really obvious from looking at the owner's manual... just look around the 100k mark in the maintenance schedule and see if it says anything about changing the belt.

Pretty sure we got a chain. After looking at the owner's manual I can't find anything about changing out a belt. This may not mean anything but at Nissan's web site they show the VQ engine for the pathfinder with a chain in one of their diagrams. However, I realize that a diagramatical representation isn't necessarily accurate. We will eventually get to the bottom of this mystery! smile

1st Gen - 2.4L 4 Cylinder - Chain
1st Gen - 3.3L V-6 - Belt
2nd Gen - 4.0L V-6 - Chain
