Is this the stock Nissan LSD that comes with the Xterra iin the rear (2000-2003)?: http://www.4x4parts.com/public_html/shop...97e5aff7ea395fd I want to make sure I am bookmarking the right pages as I begin my research on how to squeeze a little more traction out of my open rear diff on my 2000.

I don't know, call 4x4parts.com and ask. Looks like it: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/xterra/tech/LSD/ But they tend to use the same photo for all their LSDs... Regardless, don't buy an LSD, at least not at that price. You'll find used ones for sale here or on Ebay for a hell of a lot less. If you want improved traction, get a locker. Brent

Yeah I have read on a large number of posts how ineffective the stock LSD is. Regarding the locker you have, the ARB air locker I assume?, I assume you are very happy with it?
Obviously the beneifts of the ARB is it acts like an open diff before you enage it. I have read that the stock Xterra axle "should" be beefy enough to handle this locker...is that true?
Also, are there any other problems that can arise out of having the ARB vs. the stock LSD? Meaning I also use my Xterra to commute as I do to go off road on the weekend......will I see any problems from this?
thanks

I don't have a locker, but the only one available is the ARB. Of course the Xterra axles can handle an ARB, it's freakin' overbuilt. Anything else to be said on ARBs is already here to be found, start digging Brent

I just haven't seen LSD's nearly as effective as lockers. A friend has some high-end LSD's on a toyota p/u and they don't seem much more effective than the X's.

Indeed, I came across that a couple or three years ago, it's the exact same unit Nissan puts in in the first place.

Brento.k. I've heard more often than not that the X's axles are great...so I'm going to use Ian's line, "I know I should search" but if the X's axles can handle an ARB, what's the designation for our axles and what can I compare them to? All I read about are Dana's in terms of stregth...are they as good as a Dana 60 for instance? IceChickenX

Size-wise, they're not 60-class, but strength-wise, they're darn close.
