Well I went up to San Angelo this past weekend and my brother in law wanted to go wheeling. He (99 2500 4x4) and I (00 2WD X) went to his local trails and had some fun. We were traversing water that was at times hood deep (i know i should get a snorkel) but i had no problems with the engine breathing. After about half an hour of trail driving and hill climbs, he took me to his big mud pit. Well I went in and had some fun throwing mud everywhere and getting all nasty. Then on our way out from the trail, i notice the X doesnt have any umph to it at all, it felt like it was slipping hard in 1st.
Once i got on the road i stopped, pulled down to 1st and slowloy accelerated, it acted the same as before, i slipped into 2nd and nothing happened then into drive with O/D off, again nothing, then i hit O/D and nothing happened again. So i assumed 3rd. I took it to a car wash and cleaned it down then checked under the hood for leaks or anything. Sure enough, there is a very small leak between the transmission and the block...is never had a leak before.
while i was washing and checking it, it was turned off. Then i get back in, turn it to 'acc' and the O/D was blinking very fast...then off. So i started it and began to drive back to my hotel and what do ya know, it drove fine, all gears worked fine, only a small vibration in 1st during deceleration. After a little drive, the vibration was gone.
Today i drove it back from San Angelo to San Antonio which is about a 3 1/2 hour drive...no problems at all aside from that small leak.
Anyone have any idea's what the hell happened? Will is be a problem later? Is there a 'quicker/cheaper' way to fix the small leak without having the seal redone?
