Don't know if you will find a good free one, but for $35 you can get magic dvd copier. It will compress the movies for you so that they will fit onto the the standard 4.7 gb blank discs. The $35 is well worth it when you consider that a new dvd costs $20. Between myself and my dad, we have probably copied 200+ movies using this program and overall it has been very good. Occasionally a movie won't work for some reason, but usually it's because it's the disc is scratched or there is some other problem with it.

DVD Shrink 3.2 is free (don't believe any of the links you see telling you to pay for it) and does the compressing deal as well. There are some DVDs it will not copy but it will do most.

Yes - like Cheftyler said - DVDShrink is awesome. I've even used it to create DVD5's from downloaded DVD9's by mounting the DVD9 image and ripping to a DVD5 (Single Layer).

For a free ISO burning app I use Imageburn: http://www.imgburn.com/ Awesome piece of freeware.

DVD Shrink should take a dual layer and compress it so it'll fit on a single layer.

DVD Shrink is best for fitting DVD9 movies onto DVD5 discs. I wouldn't bother using it to copy a DVD (regardless of the fact it can not decrypt).

To rip DVD's, I would use either DVD Decrypter or DVDFab HD.

DVD Decrypter will not rip disney movies, but DVDFab will.

DVDFab supposedly will rip copy protected HD-DVD and Blu-Ray discs.
