Recently when my shop did my T-case gears and clutch they pointed out a crap load of issues with my engine. I just broke 90k miles and it needs a lot of work, head gasket (2nd time), exhaust manifold, Knock sensor, Timing belt, to name a few..
They said that I'd probably be better off getting a lower mileage junkyard motor and have them swap it in.
I contemplated this for a while, then came up with an idea of swapping out the 2001 N/A V6 for a 2002+ S/C V6..
Let me address the obvious points first before anyone shoots it down..
1. I DONT want to buy just the supercharger and misc parts.. I Want an entire COMPLETE Supercharged Engine, harness, ECM, etc..
2. Problem with supercharger to Hood Clearance with a 00/01..
a 2" or even a 3" body lift should solve that problem or a hole in the hood, of cowl induction center section, scoop, etc..Easy enough..
3. Swapping Engine wiring harnesses and Computers..
Sounds easy enough, the new motor should come with a harness and ECM, should be just a matter of swapping the two.. Is there more to it?
Now for some questions and concerns..
1. I have a 5 speed manual tranny. Do I need to find a S/C with the 5 speed (pretty damn tough)? Or would an Auto S/C work as well?
2. Does the S/C have different sensors that will require more wiring harnesses, (body, tranny)?
3. Will the BCM (Body control module) freak out once I swap engines?
4. Is the exhaust system different? Do I need to swap more than just the exhaust manifolds (attached to the new motor)?
Are there additional cats? Different O2 sensors? etc..
And the list goes on and on...
I do not plan on doing a SAS with my truck. In fact I really dont want to do a Body lift on it if I can avoid it. I love my center of gravity and 33"X12.5's are the magic tire size to make me happy.
I'm just thinking about all of this. I'll probably end up doing most of the maintainance and repairs on my truck by myself to avoid the $1500 plus for labor but a motor swap in the future is possible.
Any ideas?? Or am I just talking out of my ass again?
