What synthetic oil should I use in the automatic transmition on the 2000 X V6 4x4.

I have read on prior posts that Mobil 1 ATF synthetic is good......then other posts say it doesn't meet specs. Anyone know the final verdict on this?

Thanks

Mobil 1 ATF is Dexron-III/Mercon equivalent, and perfectly OK to use. I sure hope so anyway, it's been in my Xterra for about 80,000 miles...

Thanks for the reply.

So when I go into the auto store I just ask for Mobile 1 ATF? Or is there a special stock number I need to ask for or a certain type I have to have for the Xterra?

I think there is only one type of Mobil 1 ATF.

I have been using it for at least 50K.
Spendy - about $5 per bottle as I recall and if are you are doing a transmission flush, it's about 17 - 18 quarts.

YEah you are right on the price. I paid $30 for a pack of six at Autozone.

I did have a question though....you said for a flush I will need 17 to 18 quarts? My local Nissan dealership told me for a flush I will need 11 to 12 quarts?

I guess I would do good to buy 6 more and have it with me when i drop it off for the flush and install. I can always take them back if there is extra.

The flush involves pumping fresh fluid in to fully rinse the old fluid out. It takes about 8-9 quarts-worth of rinsing before all the old fluid is chased out, and another 9 quarts to leave behind in the system.

I was reading something on this and Cyclemut said there was no point in doing transmission fluid yourself. He said you will only get about 1/3 of the total fluid out because of all the transmission hoses and stuff. The Stealership has a pump to get all the fluid out and refills it too. Basically it's about $100 to have it professionally done instead of having to change the fluid 3 times as often.
