I am going to be getting approx 12K when i get out of the Marines and plan on putting approx 4 of it into my x. i am thinking (planning) on doing a hood scoop to make room for an alpine SC, K&N charger, and flowmaster 40 series dual exhaust (single pipe maybe....) I am curious if anyone currently has a setup similar to this on an SE?

I think you would be better off putting the money toward a 2005 Xterra.

I completely agree with Ian. Trade in your X and use the 4K as a down payment.

Are you getting forced out because of high year tenure?

Not trying to blow smoke here. The previous two posts are defenitely right on with their advise.

If my X was not paid off I would be trading it in a second.

There is nothing you are going to be able to do that will be reliable that is going to get you near the 250 hp's being generated out of the factory 2005 set up. Adding aftermarket SC will create some problems or at the very least some additional work... because non SC motor will not like the added pressure for very long which will lead you to have to much work to the motor.

It is a matter of how much time and money you are going to want to spend in the long run once you start experimenting with fundamental engineering changes and problems you will create. The reality is that SC is not as simple as just bolting it on and driving it away...

lincolnnellie: No, I am being medically seperated, I had my entire colon removed approx 2 yrs ago and still have not recovered 100% physically...its a real long story, which i dont mind sharing, just dont feel like typing it on here for all (who may not care) to see...
as far as tradin it in, i just got it a month ago! i dont have the funds (or credit) to get a brand new vehicle...i was fairly irresponsible w/ my $ abt 5 yrs ago and am just about done fixing that part of my life. ok...so you dont recommend charging it...what abt the FIPK and FM 40 series? single/dual exhaust? id like a few more horses outta her. dont really neeeeeeeeeeeed it but wouldn't mind it. i did pull a k5 blazer out of a mud hole (he was on 44's) but it was a pain in the ass, and took close to a dozen tries to get it right and get him out. i spend alot of time on the beach (OBX) and lots of people get stuck. i would like to have an easier time pullin them out. also, i plan on pulling a fairly large boat (296) from time to time...

exhaust and intake mods will get you a few more HP...Possibly something you can feel, but not a huge amount. Has been fair0ly well covered in this section before. I agree that supercharging is asking for many more headaches. Some that I can think of right off the bat and others that I am sure that I would miss. Be sure to make sure your computer curve can keep up with the air and fuel flow that you add when doing any mods. Modding a computer controlled motor is not like throwing some headers on the old Chevy and then re-jetting the carb.

I don't think it would fit - the VQ won't even fit in a current Xterra.

On topic - an intake and exhaust will make some difference in power. I've got an exhaust and it makes a somewhat noticeable difference (throttle response is better - actual power output probably went up very little). Adding an intake would help, I'm sure.

Thanks for your service. [ThumbsUp]

Import a Patrol, document the entire process and spread it on the web for us. Then hand in your findings to Nissan USA and dope-slap them for not making the 2005 Xterra into a Patrol in the US.
At least then you'd have a hood scoop that wasn't just for looks. wink

479 ftlb of torque would be awesome but the 149 hp would let most people down. 0 to 62 in 15 seconds is slow. Perhaps the X is lighter? I doubt it. Ill take my SC X anyday even with its low gas mileage.

To put the Endurance V-8 into a current generation X and have it work properly as more than just a showpiece (assuming it would even physically fit) you would have to re-engineer the entire vehicle....It would be more expensive than just buying a loaded Titan! You'd have to have two new diffs...axles custom made...suspension custom work...Might as well build your own vehicle frame up and drop an X body on it.

Don't understimate the bennefits of torque especially if you're planning on adding oversized tires. And if you don't want to sacrifice HP you can get a 4.8L gasoline engine with 248 HP and 310 lb-ft, all with better offroad options.
