When I start my 2006 X Off Road there is a ticking noise coming from the dash in front of the passenger. It lasts a few seconds and then it stops. It sounds like a relay ticking. Any thoughts as to what it is?

more info needed. Does it happen in Park? Or right when you put it in drive? Everytime you start up? or just when the engine is dead cold?

does it make the noise if you turn the ignition all the way on, without starting the engine?

Is it only when you start it for the first time in the morning or if it has been sitting for a while? Mine just started doing this also, I am pretty sure it is the lifters ticking. I asked the dealership about it when I had it in for service and they said it is normal for an Xterra to do it after 70K miles.

Do you normally run the fan? I think I had my fan on at least #1 for the first four or five years of owning my X. (2004 X) It started making that noise about a year ago. I just turn the radio up louder

I have similar. Only started to do it after I got a tune up. <shrug> No idea the cause.

had the tune up 9 months ago, just got the valve cover gaskets last week. It started 4 days after that. Cking behind them, found some broken clamps on upper firewall. Keep me posted on any progess, I will do the same. Shake rattle & roll.
