I think I won, but then again, my drivers side step rails are now my "under drivers side" step rails, which is kind of a bummer. Plus, dude hit me basically right on the rear drivers side tire. I was able to drive it home, but it was, how they say, a little wobbly.

Other signs of impact include a rear drivers side door that seems closed but isn't, and it also popped the tail light out (intact) like a pimple. Do you guys think they'll fix this, or is it new X time?

You have asked, I am delivering.

I definitely need to take more pictures. Here is the picture I took directly after the accident. I live in New England and it's basically been a winter wonderland since Tuesday, so I haven't gotten more detailed pictures yet. But you guys let me know what you want to see and I can make it happen. Maybe.

Here is the X. It's hard to see the majority of the damage/warping due to the dark picture and the black X. Most notably, you will notice the step rails ain't where they used to be. Other highlights include the fact that the back drivers side door is "closed" and latched, but there's a lot of empty space (currently letting snow inside) between the door and the frame. Also the rear quarter panel is what I will call "shifty." I don't like how the rear wheels felt on the ride home, either, and he basically got that part of me.

How did the other guy do? Just like this:

I should say I wish I could pick "Did not happen" over "pics."

But let's either fix this one or get me a new(er) one is what I say. I am X-committed.

The appraisal came in a little over $1500. I was kind of hoping to upgrade, but maybe I'll feel more awesome about it once I get a nice shiny looking Xterra. I hope they still have the parts!

$1500? hope you didnt settle and take it!!! I got rear ended by a caddy, it hit my hitch and dented my rear bumper and I got $900 to replace the hitch, bumper and have the mounts inspected - you've got much more damage - I'd have them fix it, not take the cash since you have a leak now and the other driver seems to be taking ownership... You could have a tweaked frame... just my 2 cents! I do like the shrock sliders in lieu of the stock step rails as XOC mentioned - suprisingly there is only a 200 list price difference - take the cash on the rails and have them fix everything else or you could be wobbly forever... again, just my 2 cents!

Luckily the insurance place is pretty good; the appraisal says that there may be more damage not apparent in the appraisal. Once they take the truck in, I guess they have to do a "2-hour teardown" to fully assess the damage, and insurance will cover the extra damage from the impact. It definitely doesn't feel awesome to drive, that is for sure.

Do the shrocks do a good job as steps too? I ask because I have come to rely upon the steps and otherwise I have to like, throw myself into the door. I'm a hockey player, we're not supposed to be tall.

The Shrock sliders work great as steps...with one caveat.

When wet, they can be slick. (dry, no problems)

Not slick like you can't get in out, slick like when I am using the sliders to walk around the X while in deep water...I worry about slipping and falling in, etc.

I Herculined the tops though, and it worked great. I HAD used tread traction strips meant for boat ladders on the tops, but they were so rough, people getting in/out were flaying off flesh (Whiners...especially my Mom....)

So, skate board grip tape, etc...works great too, but now that I brushed on some Herc, that's my fav fix for the slip...as its a soft yet tough rubber nubby finish that's both cushy and grippy.
