I popped the hood this afternoon to cool the sheet metal down before waxing ... boy, was I surprised at how dirty the first 4 inches behind the hood latch gets ...
Cleaned it all up nice and pretty and even waxed all the painted areas, even though, Turtle Wax may or may not take the heat ...
If you haven't looked there before, take a gander ... I think you'll be surprised ...

Me too ... if it's got paint on it, it gets wax on it ... if it's not painted metal, it gets Turtle Wax 2001 ... ------------------ Pepper Kay '01 XE 3 pack 4x4 auto - SWXC #39 Alpine Green

I cleaned that same area myself, especially where the rubber seals rub on the paint... Grit and road salt, y'know.
I usually hose off the engine with plain water and then warm up the engine. Once cool, hit it up with WD-40.
Gunk can be a little harsh on parts, and since the engine isn't actually greasy and funk-nasty, I'm holding off on it.
Simply Green works well, too.

Ya know Schlud, there are those of us around here who go overboard with the appearance of our trucks, but you take the cake... I mean, taking it to a spa and giving it a mud bath?? Did you give it a facial too? ------------------ Eric Konarske & Lara, my X '01 Solar Yellow XE 3 Pk. 4x4

Personally, I can't wait to see the first seaweed wrap... It has to happen sooner or later!

Mine looked like Schlud's until yesterday. It only takes one puddle to get it all up in there. Even on the underside of the hood.
Does the simple green/gunk stuff work to get the dried mud off? I just used a hose and rag for the parts I could reach, but that still left some residue behind.
