Hi,
I wanted to add another led today to the stock one. It worked well until I made a mistake and shorted both wires together.

Now, its always on and lightly dims instead of blinking completly.

What did I fry and how can I fix it..

Thanks in advance...

First replace both LED's. Get a new one and hook it up in the factory spot. This will tell you if the LED's are on thier way out. If the new one flashes as per normal then you have your fix. If not, the new one only does the dimming thing, then you most likely have shorted the alarm module and will require a new one or fix the one you have. If you don't have extensive electronic background you might not be able to fix the old one.

Hope I helped.

Hopefully the SMART module has built in current limiting and the security LED is not one with a built-in resistor... but if it's always on dimly, I'm NOT thinking that's a good sign.

I don't think anyone has (admitted to) opening up their SMART module to see if it has a discreet output drive transistor for the light or not.. if it does you might be able to replace it. If it's built into a chip however... ouch.

I don't know how the programing routine goes, but remember finding a used one means you have to reprogram your factory remotes. (which is a good idea even if you use aftermarket alarms).

after some looking around,
i found that the led is not defective..
I fried a part of the factory alarm system.
they say its built cheap.. so i most likely fried a chip.

as for fixing it... well I believe this unit is part of the main ecu unit.. soo..new icu for a dimming light.. i dont think so

I installed myself a dummy light going to the ignition. it starts when key is off.. and disables as soon as acc it on.

thanks for all the replies. laugh

The security system is part of the SMART module, which also controls interior lights, door locks, chime, and rear window defogger.

A Nissan dealership won't repair the module (I'm certain of this) but they will of course replace it. You will need your keyfobs (all of them) when it is reprogrammed. No idea how much, but I really doubt it will be warrantyable.

Unfortunately I don't have either... I'd call a dealership parts department and ask for Price and Availability for a 2002 Smart Entrance Control Unit.

It's a snap to switch out - the longest part of doing it is programming the new keyfobs to it.

The very first smd-5050 were fitted on the Audi S6 in 2006.
Back then, it was in the form of a smd-5050 straight strip on the air intakes on the bumpers.

Later in 2006, the Audi R8 sported the distinctive trademark curved LED headlights.

So to put it simply, the S6 pioneered 12 volt led lights the use of LEDs, but the R8 popularized the curvy LED design.

If you would want an Audi with flexible led strip genuine LEDs, you can look for:

Audi A1 (2010 - )
Audi A3 (2008 - )
Audi A4 (2008 - )
Audi A5 (2007 - )
Audi A6 (2008 - )
Audi A7 (2010 - )
Audi A8 (2010 - )
Audi Q3 (2011 - )
Audi Q5 (2009 - )
Audi Q7 (2009 - )
Audi TT (2011 - )

I think you must have a problem with the alarm system not with the led.Because when there is an error in the programming or any fault in the alarm system than these led don't work properly and blinking after the door lock or don't blink. So try to fix the alarm fault.
