Thanks

If you're waiting for Calmini to come out with an SAS kit for the 2nd gen you're probably (let me emphasize the probably here) never ever going to see one...from Calmini or others.

The reason I say this, is because I was present for quite a bit of the fabricating of Ponyboy's SAS by the guys @ All Phase.

Not only was it expensive, there was a lot of monkeying around that had to be done to swap from rack and pinion steering to a traditional drag link/centerlink setup.

But, having said that, if enough people push the manufacturers they might just suprise us.

When I talked to David at SEMA he hinted that a 2nd gen SAS was coming - though I'm sure it won't be anytime too soon.

That would be surprising. Everyone is still waiting on Calimini's 5".

Word from flip flop is that he received his SLR 5" and dropped his truck off at all phase for install.

Sorry the market is not there for the price it would cost to have a 2nd gen SAS kit. wink

Sure lots of people would want them but who would really pay that price. I watched ponyboys go together and spent some time under there.

Says who? Are they losing money on the 1st gen kit? I think a fair number of people are ordering 'em and paying the price - I don't see why a second gen kit would be any different (unless it is a lot harder/more expensive to make a 2nd gen kit... maybe that's what you're saying?).

It is way more expensive for the second gen.

You need to install a WHOLE new steering system including a steering box. The Rack does not work with a SAS. Now start looking where to mount that box there is no space in there. Ponyboy had to get very creative to mount the box with limited space.

No gears will match front to rear with another axle. Nissan does not make any.

So now you are talking about ripping out both axles to get the ring and pinons to match.

And there are alot of electrical issues and other misc to work around too.

Ponyboy has put a ton of work into his rig and it is AWESOME!!!

Difficulty aside I would think it will be years before there is a large enough market to make a 2nd Gen SAS profitable. The early 1st Gen are just starting to hit the age where someone would want to start major mods to them IMO.

I keep imagining someone with a SASed truck selling it ( [Freak] ) to some random person who doesn't know what they've got... and then they take it in to Nissan or somewhere for some maintenance or repair and the tech is like.... "uhhhhh..... uhhhhhhh.... THAT's not a Nissan....".

Wow. I'm a dork.
