So after I locked myself in the back of my X, I wondered why on earth the little pull strap is there. Then I began to wonder if I could modify it or it's attachment screw to be more useful.

Anyone made modifications to this part? I was thinking maybe I could get some sort of hook to hold a recovery strap. Just curious what creaive minds have done, if anything, to this seemingly useless part. smile

it's for the midgets. if they jump high enough, they can pull the liftgate down...

and look at this for those moments of panic, when you're in the back of the X and can't get out:

latch release

maybe you could put somesort of hook there to use a something stronger to tie the hatch down if you have long boards that hang out the tailgate. just take off the bolt drill a hole in whatever you want to put there and bolt it on.

Recently I bought a big piece of plywood that fit in the back of the X but stuck out a little, so the back wouldn't close. So I took a long piece of rope, wrapped the rope around the length of the plywood and through that pull handle on the back... then ran both ends of the rope to the front of the car and made my friend hold on to it. That way, the back of the X didn't open, and the plywood wouldn't fall out! pure genius
