Please help! - 30/06/03 02:25 PM

My a/c died.. and my mechanic told me that the hose I need is on a national backorder. According to him, I need the "a/c hose, highside from the compressor to the condensor". Does anyone know of this? I guess it's pretty uncommon to have to replace it. This one guy in CT has had one on order since March.

I need to get my a/c fixed ASAP b/c I will be driving cross country with my 2 dogs and 2 cats!!

Thanks for any help!

do you have a part #? I'd be wiiling to call few dealers around here to see if they have it in stock for you. I just replaced a A/C hose on my that was around $67 for the part. not sure exactly which parts it went between.

the highside is the discharge side of the compressor and yes, it then goes to the condenser. being on back order, well you might be screwed. did he say you had a leak in the hose and you lost your refrigerant charge? if so, well it might be a hot road trip for ya. you might be able to get a hose fabricated somewhere. i am not sure who or where you would call though for a fabricated hose, maybe a hydraulic shop. they use high pressure hoses for hydraulic type stuff. if you know anybody that works for an A/C & R shop,(air conditioning and refrigeration) they might be able to help too. good luck.

Ok, try calling these numbers, make sure you have your model and engine size info ready. If you have a part number as well that would be great. Good luck! I hope this helps a bit. If they don't have one, ask about them making you one.

thank you so much for your help guys.. yeah, they actually did say that i had a leak. but, i just talked to xterraparts.com and they actually had two in stock!! so i have the part ordered, now all i have to do is get it and find a place that will do it for me. or is it something that is easy to fix?

also, b/c of the leak, i probably have to get it recharged and fixed.. so maybe i should just bring it to a mechanic.. right?

if its the same part as mine it should only take about an hour and yes either way they will have to do a recharge. but since we have the new style freon its not as much, mine was around $80 but mine was done in a privately owned shop. total repair for mine was around $230

Where did you go initailly for the problem?

Sarah,

I shot an email off to this place and here's what I got in response:

Well if she comes through Phoenix Arizona and can take the hose off the
truck- we can rebuild it. But we don't work on the vehicles. I could
possible recommend a service facility to her.
Otherwise I would say to try the dealer for the line.
Just let me know...
Thank you for the inquiry ,HC

If interested please reply back with this e-mail. It is needed for
reference. Also please take note of my new e-mail address. hc@aapak.com

I see you already ordered the part, but in case it falls through, maybe you could try this.

Hope it helps,

Thanks again everyone!

Initially I went to a couple of Nissan dealerships here in Connecticut.. D'Addario and Napoli. They were the ones that told me it was on national backorder! All I had to do was call xterraparts.com and it will be here in a week.

There is a mechanic on the top of my street at a Getty station that I trust a lot. So I am going to ask him if he'll do everything for me.

I'll let you all know how it goes.. thanks again so much!

You are really going to need that AC if you are coming down to Texas! It's a little hot down here right now! Good luck with the repair. BTW, nice color choice for the ole' X! wink
