HELP Quick - I have a dealer problem - 26/10/07 10:54 AM

Long story short - 2002 X (53K miles) goes in the shop to replace driver side head gasket.
As of yesterday the repairs were succesful and they were cleaning up the job.
Today the started is gone and they want me to pay $700 to have it repaired.

Suggestions / recommendations please.

No warranty!

Thanks

Do you offroad at all. I find it hard to beleive the starter is out with that young and that little mileage.

Tell me about it!
They broke it down to $250 for starter and 3.5 hours worth of labor.

Anyone change one? easy, difficult (mechanically inclined).

Thanks

Labor is $80 an hour how does that and the starter = $700?

Try Alldatadiy.com to see if you want to install it yourself. Also Autozones web site offers some info.

it does not take 3 hrs to replace a starter it has 2 bolts that hold it to the bell housing sounds to me like they are trying to recover some of there money they lost on the warrenty work. I replced mine got it from Pep boys life time warrenty was like 180.00 then about an hour to remove old one install the new one even taking your time it should not take more than 1.5hrs

yea what he said. If you want you can find one for about $75 on www.car-parts.com install is two bolts, a nut, and a wire harness. Its really easy. If anything try and tap/hit the starter, then try and start it up, to see if you can get it to start and drive it home.

Called another dealership (another state) they quoted me $389 (250 parts and 1 hour labor).

Looks like I may be replacing a starter this weekend. AutoZone has it for $105.

Every minute I get more pissed off at these people. For all I know they messed up the battery connection and calling it a bad starter.

Calling AAA to have the truck towed home.
Enough of this SHIT!

I will assume it is a Nissan Dealer...

You should contact Nissan Corp and file a complaint, I did this when I bought my X and Corp reamed the dealer and I must not the only one as the dealer no longer exists!
