Howdy from Houston - 27/10/06 09:30 AM

Hey everyone! I finally made the jump and got an '06 SE in Midnight Blue with Steel interior last week. A pretty big change from the Mazda Protege I had been driving.

Unfortunately I got hit by what I'm assuming was a rock on Interstate 45 yesterday and I already need a new windshield. mad That really ruined my week. Any ideas on what it will set me back to replace it?

Howdy! That really sucks about the windshield... how big of an impact is it? If you are concerned about getting it done without insurance involved, I would contact some local shops... prices vary a lot... and some have better guarantees than others over repairs... if it is small enough (about the size of a quarter) it might be easier to simply repair than replace...

about two months ago I had a deep impact just slightly larger than a quarter on the drive back from Corpus Christi to Houston... it cost me about 50 to fix and the repair is now very subtle... replacements I believe started around $170?

I went to these guys near Reliant Stadium...

Welcome to the club. [Wave] Sorry for the rock hitting your windshield. Check out www.swxc.org for the local xterra club here in Texas.

Thanks guys, I think my insurance has a $50 glass deductible but I hate to file another claim so soon after my previous car was totaled a couple weeks back (hence why I'm in the new ride). My little Protege didn't hold up so well after being hit by a cement mixer truck on the freeway. [Finger] Bastard.

Anyways, it sounds like a new windshield will be around $300. The crack is about 14 inches long (two of those from where it grew today) and goes right through my line of sight. If it was smaller or even just on the passenger side I'd probably leave it. Hopefully they can move my inspection sticker (the one that came on the truck and is good for two years) to the new windshield.

Nope, nobody hurt bad, just my poor car. I saw that he wasn't going to stop (he just pulled into traffic on US 290 without slowing down or even looking) so I knew a collision was coming. I was sore for a week but am mostly fine now.

What really sucks is that now my wife is stuck in her little Hyundai Accent for a while longer. We were gonna trade it in on the X and keep the Mazda. mad Pisses me off just thinking about it.... I really did like that car. frown
