Jeep Refugee - 06/09/07 10:40 PM

After having the same Jeep TJ for ten years, I swapped it for an '05 Rubicon. I pretty quickly figured out it's really hard for me to take a vehicle off road when I owe money on it. Also my German Shepherds didn't really do the interior any good. So I sold the Rubi and bought a 2000 Xterra, more room for the dogs and it's paid for. The previous owner had the timing and drive belts replaced this past year, anything else I need to look out for? Everything works and it runs well, I'm surprised how capable it is in the dirt. The only flaky thing so far is setting the cruise control, I was considering doing the always on mod listed in the electrical section on this board.

might want to check and make sure the fuel sending unit was replaced, and if not, you might wan to see if your VIN had that problem and have it fixed. the older trucks( i had a 2000 as well) had a problem with the fuel sending unit going bad and nissan put out a VIN specific factory recall on them.

Also check to see if your rear main seal is leaking. Mine has been replaced twice already. Check for oil on the engine cross member.

Also check to see if your passenger side exhaust manifold is cracked. You will a (pffft) puffing sound when you first start the truck.
