Bought the damn ring today.. - 22/10/07 03:48 PM

Went to the diamond district in Manhatten and saw two guys. The first one wanted WAYYYY too much money and the second one was perfect. He's also very reputable. Let me know what you think about the specs..Pics will be up in a few weeks if anyone cares that much but I'd like some insight..

Its a:
1.27 Carat cushion cut.
H color
SI-1
Brillaint on a plat setting w/ tons of diamonds

What's a "cushion cut"? Stick to the basics princess, square, marquis, circle, or the other one.. Women (of course) are fickle, is she in on the purchase? Does she know/like what you picked out for $7300? You'll spend a long agonizing death by her, if she's not happy up front. wink

My wife made it simple for me smile . We picked out the rock, and went simple on the band-

Comparable Diamond

But do you really want to know and does it really matter. And does she read XOC and see the title of the thread wink .

Re: Bought the damn ring today.. - 22/10/07 05:07 PM

I did mine this way: She picked it out, I paid. She's happy with it, which makes me very happy. As long as she's happy, peace is present in the house. That's a very good thing to have.

[Spit] Love the title of this thread!

Save yourself a future argument and stop referring to it as "the damn ring" wink

Oh, and congrats!

Re: Bought the damn ring today.. - 22/10/07 05:26 PM

i dont think i would ever spend $7500 on a damn ring. i could get a second xterra for that price and get a different woman at the bar every week too.

Re: Bought the damn ring today.. - 22/10/07 05:27 PM

Its only the "damn" ring because I keep telling myself what I could have bought for my X with what I just spend..think along the lines of SAS, Snork, 3" SL, etc. Thats ok..the ARB Bumper is a nice wedding present. smile

Re: Bought the damn ring today.. - 22/10/07 05:56 PM

Fuck that.

$7500 would add FI to my RX-8... No way in hell a ring is worth that much.

Good luck with the "high maintenance" chick.

You know how a new vehicle loses a bunch of its value when you drive it off the lot? Jewelry is much worse. Has to be among the most marked up merchandise on earth. You'll find that out if you ever have to unload the thing.

If you're getting engaged, you don't have much choice other than make your best deal and hope she wears it forever.

Re: Bought the damn ring today.. - 22/10/07 07:05 PM

Only two rings to go Boss... You already got...

Engagement RING,
Next is wedding ring,
and the last..
SuffeRING..... wink [ThumbsUp]

Wait theres more...

What food decreases a womans sex drive by 90%??

Wedding cake!!

(I'm here all week, try the veal!) [Finger]

Got a ten point diamond laying around that I'm not using, Think I paid $100 in 1983 for it.

It was the biggest stone that would fit in the ring.

That is if you didn't want to remove the shield entirely.

When I had the ring remade a couple of years ago, I decided to have the diamond removed. I never really liked it in it anyway.

My buddy bought almost the same ring as the specs you give above. Paid an almost identical price, too. Only he just went to the local Jared jewelry store outside Woodfield Mall.

And on the subject of crazy markups, anyone else see Blood Diamond? Most women will yell at you for picking plastic bags over paper, but it's ok for little African kids to get their arms chopped off so the flow of completely non-rare diamonds can continue to flow.

There's so many things wrong with diamonds, I don't know where to begin. Leave it to something women want to be completely out of whack. You know if it was dudes that got the diamond as a gift it would cost $100 for the ring specs shown above, there would be no monopoly and no African kids would be getting slaughtered.

Only women could completely fuck up something as simple as pulling a common stone out of the ground.

I think it would have been worth your time and money to come and have my jeweler make it for you. You cut out %50 of the price when you take out the middle man.

[Save the fine unicorns] It was my choice to buy it for her. She would have settled for less. It's a one time purchase and it made her happy. I like to make her happy..

Wow man, that a whole lot of ice. My wife would have made me take it back if I came in with that. eek

Her 2 rings are worth around 3K total and even though they are insured she often wont wear them for fear of loss or damage. smile

What are you going to do for a wedding band?

Yeah, but you're settin' that bar AWFUL high... you're just setting yourself up for painful anniversaries/christmas', etc. over the life of your marriage... that's why I say, "good luck".

For men's rings, I can't say enough good things about Tungsten-carbide...that is, if you like the look and/or you want to avoid scratches, dings, etc. The material is tougher than nails (literally) and you'll find yourself amazed at how durable it is. I've picked up a few scratches on mine, but mostly from aluminum oxide (a.k.a. sandpaper).

The following is a general observation. It isn't directed towards you personally because obviously I don't know you or what your relationship is like.

Love is not defined or demonstrated by the cost and frequency of gifts. This is a lesson many, many people never seem to learn and anybody who's with someone who needs to be spoiled to feel loved, well, that should be a big red flag snapping in the breeze.

I'll take a caring and thoughtful partner over nice presents any time.

Re: Bought the damn ring today.. - 24/10/07 07:22 AM

My ex wife "expected" jewelery for anniversary's and such. If I didn't bring home something nice, I was in the dog house.

Luckily my current wife is more practical and light hearted. She would rather have a new DS Lite game or a new hammock for camping.

I'm lucky!

If I had stayed with my ex I'd be co owner of a resort in Boca Raton FL. She was also a kniving bitch and I'd rather be broke than be w/ her. I just appreciate my fiance so much that I wanted to make her very very happy with a nice ring. It's nothing more than that.

And I'm building a D44 axle @ work right now for myself. She can't tell me no to any of this..she already got what she wants..hopefully I'll be allowed to finish building what I want! Alright..I admitted it.

If you are building an axle now, then don't get the 3" SL. You're gonna have to toss it or resell cheaper when you/if you decide to SAS in the end. PML and a 2"BL should get you by until the SAS.

I got my girls rock at robbins brothers. Excellent people/service/selection.

I was looking at blue nile also but when ordering something online you never really know what you will get.
