$100 for opening a Chase checking account? - 07/07/08 03:37 PM

Got the offer in the mail today. $100 for opening an account with direct deposit. Any opinions on banking at Chase?

Not too concerned about fees since I might go to a bank teller twice a year, use the debit card 2x a day, get cash back if need be, go to the banks atm if need more than $50, auto debit or online bill pay for everything else.

$100 for opening an account that will make Chase nearly nothing in interest to re-coop the $100 seems like a losing proposition for them. I'm with a small local bank right now who's been great to deal with mortgage wise but the deal seems to good to pass up.

I dont like bannking with big banks any more. They rip you off to much. I would rather stick with the small local bank or a credit union.

They might require a pretty high minimum balance to avoid a monthly account fee.

Free checking account no min balance as far as I can tell from offer letter. Not much fine print which surprises me.

You won't get the $100 for WEEKS.

Thats fine. I'm not planning to grab the $100 and run. It's not worth the $100 to have to redo 10 or so automatic payments to have to do it again in 3 months.
