When were you at Etosha?. I was there during the war in 88-89. Ran out of gas in Etosha and had to stay in our landcruiser for 7 hours before help arrived. I took a wrong turn thinking that an outpost was open.

I was in Etosha in September of this year. It was pretty amazing. Just sitting there watching the animals come up to you.

I'm impressed with the streaming capability. When I was in Africa, we couldn't find crap in terms of high speed, even in Capetown.

They are not showing the water hole anymore, now it's just a patch of grass. There was some sort of deer there (didn't see horns) that they were zooming in on in the grass, but now it's just a patch of green.

Nevermind, as I typed this, they scrolled back to the watering hole. Must have a rook behind the camera.

It seems like when whoever gets to work at 8PM pacific time starts manning the camera, all the action starts happening.

I have found that it is most active (when I'm awake) is in the morning their time about 2 hours after the sun comes up.

At 8pm Pacific, an observer seems to show up and pan the camera around so you will see action even if there is nothing going on at the watering hole.

Scroll up and read some of the other posts. At like 9+ to 11 Pacific time it is not stop. Zebras, giraffes, monkeys, deer, impallas, all kinds of animals come out a few hours after sunrise.

What look to be five buffalo at the hole right now. Also just saw what looked to be a set of car headlights, or some kind of spotlight panned over the area....

Something has them startled....they all took a defensive position and are standing with their backs to the watering hole....

I've been watching this for awhile and tonight is the first time I've seen anything besides birds... saw 5 giraffes!! Pretty awesome to see. 2 were flirting around in circles for awhile.

Me too!! I saw 7 birds in like 20 attempts then I finally saw the Giraffe foreplay.

Not much right now. Just a couple of big-assed birds with long beaks.

Two nights ago it was like a scene from the Lion King. All in the same area were about 15 zebras, 5 giraffes and another 20 or so impallas. It was really cool.

Yesterday afternoon ,while it was still dark in Africa, I saw my first elephant on there.

I see a couple of impallas playing around..

Holy CRAP! They zoomed in on a friggin millipede! That's some awsome shit right there!

It goes down every once in a while...seems like the camera runs on solar power and teh battery backup for it doesn't last much past sundown...watched it crash at 10:45PM Africa time today...so like 4-5 hrs after sunset is how long the battery lasts.

Is anyone else watching this? There's a lion on it's back breathing very heavy. Did I miss something? Did it get attacked?

Nevermind, he's back up. Must have been taking a "cat nap".

Earlier tonight there were about a half dozen loins in the area. That brought out a couple of truckloads of safari types and the lions were active.

The one laying was pretty excited with all the comotion. I thought I heard noises when the trucks were hovering around him but I couldn't identify them.

(As I type this another truck cruised by the lion in the picture)

The camera is actually pointed behind where we normally see and is panning the area. There is a herd of wildabeast to the top right of the watering hole that doesn't seem to be very nervous about lions being in the area. I'm guessing that as it starts to get towards midday, it's getting hotter and he's feeling the heat.

Hence the heavy panting.

I guess those wildabeast should have been paying better attention. Anyone catch the kill?

Yup, still there, still hot and still panting. Earlier, I saw them nawing on their catch. This has been a excellent couple days for this webcam.

yup, 11:00am cst and there are some passed out kitties all over the place. Full bellies and sleeping it off. One is still having a snack though.

Wow, this africam is really cool. I finally managed to check the link when it was daylight in Africa, and I actually watched as the remote camera operator panned and zoomed on stuff. All of the other times I've visited the site, I only saw bugs flying across the screen in night-vision mode (pretty boring).

Amazing that I can watch live African wildlife from 1/2-way around the world!

Update I think.... I believe a second camera may have been added as I can now see the buildings in the background where I never could before.

Could be a coincedence, OR, this guy has the camera facing in a direction I've never seen before....

Either way, a bazillion water buffalo, zebras, a couple monkeys and Angelina Jolie just wandered by....
