Sherriff is about to declare a state of emergency. 2 to 4 foot drifts on the highways and side roads are basically impassable.

Kevin, enjoy a nice Crown & coke! I was wondering how bad it was going to get up your way. It blew through Grand Junction about 6:00pm last night. Snowed like crazy with 50 mph winds. The temp dropped 11 degrees in 20 minutes. Can't even imagine the wind chill in your parts.
80% chance of snow here tonight so more headed your way!

I was wondering how you guys where doing over there, Kevin. I woke up to about 0 deg, with 40+ mph winds. Almost got knocked off of Peak to Peak Hwy on the way to work, then almost hit a fucking moose standing in the middle of the road, in a whiteout from the wind...thank god those damn things are brown.

We have trees for protection, though. South Park is flat and treeless. Man the wind REALLY wips thru there.

Kevin - I'm coming over your way on Tuesday, Feb 5th in route to Wolf Creek. I can't remember, do you normally work on Tuesdays? You know, when the wind isn't trying to send you to Texas.

Yep I work Tuesdays.

The crown and coke like Tyler said I have plenty of beer and such. Everyone comes to the house and drops a bottle off, they never take it with em.

SAS only does so much... I may have to go take some pics this week.

LMAO... Thats why I have so much wood stacked up. If the power goes out I can still keep the house warm for quite a few days and also a couple of propane tanks for the BBQ Grill to cook on.

Was wading in the Pacific Ocean at Pacific Beach San Diego this morning in the balmy 65° Sunshine. Sad to be home in Phoenix now, could have happily hung out on the beach all day. I'm not missing the snow today laugh

The radio announcement said that they have pulled 318 stranded vehicles out.

Monday, 2/11/08 @5:00: Park County has declared a disaster and emergency due to the weather conditions and the constant high winds. We are getting additional resources into the county to assist with removing snow and getting citizens out of blocked residences. This operation will take some time. In the event of an emergency, citizens should continue to call 911. Otherwise, we have set up a phone bank for people with needs at (719) 836-. This number will have someone available from 8am to 6pm each day.

A shelter has been opened for displaced citizens this evening at the South Park Recreation Center in Fairplay.

Nice pictures ya got there! [ThumbsUp]

I can't wait to have my first true experience with snow later this month. I'm headed to Maine for a week and apparently there won't be any shortages of snow while I'm there. laugh

It's not all it's cracked up to be. I sometimes enjoy driving in it. There is never a shortage of morons driving in it either.

Alpine :: nice pictures, but be careful with the driving/taking pictures thing. I haven't quite mastered that skill.

Re: Yeah NO WORK TODAY...... - 12/02/08 06:00 PM

Driving in the snow made me a bit nervous until I asked for some advice. Here's what I've been told so far... feel free to add Silverkat or anyone else for that matter.

1. Rent a front wheel drive car. (So wish I could take my own car, but that's not an option).

2. Treat snow like a hard rain... drive below the posted speed limits and don't make sudden lane changes.

I'll take snow over ice any day!

They closed major freeway\'s here for the evening commute - a bad bunch of freezing rain covered everything in about a quarter inch of ice frown

None of you guys would last a week in Minneapolis. -26F last week, blowing and drifting snow, 4 feet of ice on Prior Lake, and yes; I was fishing!

Kev- you alright? It sounds like they are making progress on getting you all out. Are they going to get it done in time for this next storm? Do you need anything? I'm a little over an hour away...

I would. I grew up in northwestern Wyoming, though the Arizona residency for the last 15 years has thinned my blood....

My 92 YO grandad still gets out on the ice a ways east of you on the Fox River in Wisconsin. I bet he's caught half the bluegills in the state in his lifetime!

They have all the roads clear now. We did however make a grocery run today with this next storm really building up and it could dump some decent snow, but if the wind picks up again then we are back to square one. Thanks for the offer though I appreciate it.

Kev - Good to hear. I'm sure a bunch of us would show up if need be. Hell I could borrow a CAT IT38G, snowmobile and snowcat if we had to. Don't know how I'd get the snowcat or IT there, but I'd figure it out. Maybe in the back of the haul truck, that would be a sight!!!

Edited for spelling.

I spent enough winters in Mpls and Ideal Corners to know I can handle it but I don't miss it. 12 years in AZ and I haven't had to shovel any sunshine yet. We tried to explain ice fishing by example for a native Arizonan once, we drew a circle on the garage floor, laid some string down and proceeded to drink blackberry brandy all afternoon. We didn't catch anything but a buzz, which is about how ice fishing worked on Ossawanamakee.
