who is gonna win the BCS Championship?

Can USC 3-peat or will somone step up from the Pac-"1" and keep them from going? UT is supposed to win the Big XII South. One problem, they can't seem to get by Oklahoma. No matter how young Oklahoma is this year and no matter how many people are predicting UT to win the south, I believe that's only more fuel for Stoops to use and will win as usual. Hell, I think Tech, A&M, Ohio St. or all 3 might take one from UT as well. If I'm wrong and they get by all 4 of those games, they'll be there. I'm hoping that my second favorite school, Notre Dame, is back but they still may be a couple years out. Is Auburn going to contend again? What about the Florida schools: Miami, Florida and Florida State? Finally, the Big 11 errr 10. Is anyone going to be worth a damn this year? Am I leaving any other possible contenders out?

I would say USC is hands down the favorite. They have a fifth year senior/Hiesman winner at QB. Everyone and their mother wants to go play football there. What more do they need?

The Sooners may be young. But with most of the media overlooking them this year, it plays right into the coaching staff's hands. Just like in 2000, the Sooners are getting no respect nationally. If we get by UCLA and Texas, then it is smooth sailing to Pasadena. Probably face Florida or the USC rematch. Either way, 30 days until the Sooners kickoff!

Then you must look at who blew them out.

UT plays at Ohio State, at Missouri, at Kyle Field and has to get the Stoops monkey off Mack Brown's back. And they have to do it with inexperienced wide receivers and a QB who hasn't proven that he can throw the ball. And don't come back with "Rose Bowl" because regardless of what Mack Brown believes, that was a fluke. I might have given Vince Young some credit if his defense had showed up. (Last second field goal) I don't mean to offend, because the Sooners didn't even show up against USC last year. But that is my point. That was last year and it's time to step up and see who can run the table in the Big 12 South this year. BOOMER....SOONER!!!!

Some teams that may have been left out are Tenn. the completely killed a good Tex A&M team in the bowls last year, and the coach has said this is his best team ever(I know they always say that), also another sleeper may be Iowa, they have won 31 games in the last 3 years. But they have to beat Ohio State first . My pic (yes very biased) as a contender to USC in the PAC-10 is my alma mater(SP?) Arizona State (to play USC in OCT.), finished 19 in the BCS last year. Other than those you can't count out Texas, with Vince Young, who is labeled a running back playing quarterback.

Texas A&M was over-rated last year, so that Tennesse game wasn't much of a surprise. Hell, it took them overtime at home to beat us. Still, I guess it's safe to say that whoever comes out of the Big XII South will mostly likely play for the championship while the Big XII North will once again be their bitches.

USC is the clear favorite. If I were a dick-wrap fan my biggest concern would be the Norm Chow factor.

As far as the rest of the Pac goes, Arizona State or Cal are the obvious runner-up picks. WSU and OSU are on the way down. UW will be better, but they need a couple of years to right the ship. Stanford will remain at the bottom, and they will be joined by UCLA. Arizona will be better, but they're probably still a mid-pack team.

Oregon is the dark horse in the conference - they've under-performed every year since they were screwed in '01, but they are changing up the offense this year and they're absolutely loaded at the skill positions. Could be really good, could be poor - we'll see. They may have a fighting chance against USC because they get to play them at Autzen, but a win in that one will be tough to come by.

Back to the national picture, I've been hearing a lot about Texas, but the schedule is brutal. Basically if USC can handle the coaching transition, they shouldn't struggle much against any team in the country.

Seriously though, with road games against Florida, LSU, 'Bama, and Notre Dame, it will be tough. We have all the elements to competer and win at any level. We'll see though, thats why we play the games.

After further consideration, I think it will definitely be USC again. Think about it, they play no one because their conference is weak. The Big XII South will beat each other up and so will the SEC and ACC. Maybe someone from the Big 11 might sneak in to play USC.

I think a lot of this all depends on who even gets to play for the title. True, USC has a leg up, at the moment, but nobody really knows what this new Harris Poll is going to do for it all.

Top that off with the realistic possibility of 4 teams going undefeated (USC, Texas, Tennesse, Louisville), and you've got a nice little BCS mess to clean up, yet again.

I think, realistically, the only one of those 4 that might drop a game, is Texas, and only because of the competition they have to play. USC doesn't have to play anybody that's tough, and neither does Louisville. (I'll admit, UofL has the easiest path to an undefeated season). Tennessee has a few tough games, but I think they're head and shoulders above the rest of the SEC, that they could pull it off.

It could be an interesting, come middle November, if all 4 of those squads are still undefeated.

Wow, gilsnuxs, you're even more of a fan than I am... and I'm pretty bad. I do not necessarily say they'll lose to us. Winning in Austin is very hard to do. But I will say that they will lose to Ohio St., Oklahoma, Texas A&M and/or Texas Tech.

What's funny is Texas A&M. They are, once again, the most completely over-rated team in the nation. Notre Dame and Nebraska are finally no longer over-rated. The media keeps saying they're going to contend with Texas in the Big XII South. One major problem, they play in Lubbock this year. When was the last time they won there? I can't find any information from that far back. Hell, it took overtime at home to beat Tech last year. The other problem the media is missing out on is Bob Stoops. Since when is Oklahoma out of the picture? Stoops's Sooners remind of Belichick's Patriots. No love from the media which only helps them step it up to another level. The Big XII South is going to be very exciting to watch this year, but I find it hard to believe someone will be playing for the national championship once the smoke clears. The Big XII North might as well not exist this year like last year.

Yeah you can never rule out the Sooners. I'm stoked because my friends little brother plays for them. And their offense just gets me excited for all the highlight reels.

I do agree that A&M is extremely overrated. I know that they haven't won in LUbbock for the last five years for sure.

The only thing that sucks is that the south beats up on each other while the north just coasts along.

We have the best O-line in the game. We also have one of the top ranked Defensive lines in the game; perhaps the best secondary in the country and very fast linebackers. We're triple stacked at RB (Ramonce Taylor= stud) and we have the number 1 playmaker in the game leading the offense. Our WR's? I dunno...It all depends on Youngs arm if his legs need a rest.

Ohio State = Very tough game. Great traditions on both sides. Ohio State will run multiple 3+ WR sets early and often. Texas needs to set the run up early to have success and spy Ginn X 2 at all times. Only game that scares the shit out of me.

Oklahoma- After watching them dominate TCU...well I can't say I'm too worried about that one.

Tech- Next. There's this thing called a "defense." This is something Tech doesn't understand.

aTm- Overrated much? They're not even in the same league as UT this season. Again.

Blah blah blah. You can ramble all you want about how Texas has the best this and the best that in the nation. Until there's a #1 next to their name at the end of the year, the don't have the best anything. And you're forgetting one huge factor... Mack freakin' Brown. He'll blow it like always. This could be a tough game being at Kyle Field and facing Reggie and the other seniors who would love nothing more than to beat UT in their last hoorah, but they have way too many holes in their run D as Clemson exposed, and their offense loves to play the disappearing act way too often. Texas will expose these, although I look for it to be a last quarter win for the Horns.

FYI- Some reasons I'm not worried about OU;

Their D is down to starting walk ons on the D-Line. They lost a Heisman QB and are now relying on two kids who couldn't hit the ocean from the beach in spring or fall drills, then were exposed at HOME vs. TCU. Imagine what's gonna happen when they face a secondary as good as ours? Boom goes the Dynamite much?

Adrian has a high ankle sprain. High ankle sprains tend to linger, which doesn't bode well for their young offense. Their receivers lack experience, and apparently the ability to catch. This too has been talked about through spring and fall practices.

They're now planning on starting Rhett Bomar and benching Paul Thompson vs. Tulsa. I have no doubt OU will settle down and once again find the win column many times this year, but I can promise you it won't be against Texas. Their inexperience in the RRSO will have their minds racing once they enter the Cotton Bowl and Young and Co. will enjoy taking advantage of this opportunity.

As for aTm- I'm sure Reggie was all over Mobley and Carter this week for dropping such catchable passes last week. Courtney Lewis looked alright, but does he not seem a bit slower than in years past? The quickness from his early days seems to be lost in my opinion.. Reggie is fucking money. Too bad his receivers hands were soaking in buttah.

Their D is overrated as it has been since Franchione took over the reigns. If Appel leads the team in tackles again they are dire trouble. The only thing that scares me almost as much as playing in the Horsehose- playing at Kyle Field. Like I said, close game, but we have too much depth and too many playmakers on both sides of the ball for aTm to stop this year.

Hey, that game against ya'll did suck. However, I expected it. I felt like I was the only Tech fan that thought Sunnie Cumbie sucked. He did. How we finished the year so great is beyond me. That just goes to show you what it's like to have a good coach. (BTW, we have a Holiday Bowl victory too. Our's was over #4 Cal though ). Now, when we missed the final field goal in Austin two years ago and beat you in Lubbock three years ago... that's where it's at. Expect that this year because our quarterback (the basis of our whole team) should be much better than Kingsbury, Symons and Cumbie. Of course, he's play still remains to be seen. I'll reserve judgement thought because I though Harrell should start... the next Peyton Manning.

But we led the nation in pts. per game, if I remember correctly. Even exposed Miami's defense, when no team prior to us had racked up any numbers against 'em. We had more yards & points against Miami in the first half, than they'd averaged all year long, prior to that game.

That was last year. Cumbie sucks, yet he still hung 70 on TCU AND Nebraska and blew out Cal. I'm talking about ever since Leach took over. We are always a Top offense. This year, I believe we're predicted to be the top offense.

Looks like improvement to me. Keep in mind, this is coming from having an offense that scores a lot and often. Plus, we recruited pretty damn good at defense the last couple of years, so we no longer have a "bad defense".

That's b.s. Tech is in the middle of no where, UT is the biggest school in the nation and in the middle of a big city. That's very attractive to players all over the nation. Don't tell me there's equal chance to get recruits. Yes, we can get offense, but there still not the top recruits like the big schools get. Matter of fact, they're the same amount of talent as the defense players that we get. BTW, yes, I've heard the saying and apparently no school in Texas has defense because no one has a championship.
Smaller schools usually don't. Still, like I said, we can compete and I think we might get more and more looks at big games.

Well, I took advantage of my evacuation from Houston, and went to the Texas Tech game. They played the almighty Indiana State. Hey, did you know Larry Bird went there? That's all I heard about this game. Anyway, it's always fun to see my team put up 49 in the first half. Our 2nd and 3rd team didn't really do much though. Anyway, we have a pretty good shot at being undefeated when we roll into Austin to face UT. With that said, I wasn't as impressed with our team like I thought I was going to be this year.

Hey Nismo, I watched the game on webcast and I have to say that I was a little dissapointed also. But, I think that ws because they had a couple of players get injured so they kind of layed off a bit. I'mgoing to be up there for next weeks game and i'm hoping some conference games get them pumped and undefeated when they roll into Austin. All in all I thought it was a good showing but some improvements will definitely need to be made.

Texas Tech has played nobody worthy of playing. Any huge NCAA school can beat up AA and high school teams. Just wait till Tech plays some teams worthy. They will lose and lose hard. Holy freakin' crap. I literally just about shit my pants during that Texas Tech @ Nebraska game. Nothing like going into Lincoln and putting up a nice 21-0 score to start the game only to settle down and have them come back and take the lead while we couldn't do anything offensively. Then, we finally scored with 13 seconds left to win the game! Thanks for making it easy on me guys.

Now, if we can get by Kansas St. next week, we'll roll into Austin most likely in the Top 10.

yes I did watch the game, and I just described WHY you should have lost that game. The reason why they were in the game is because they played good defense in the second half. they held you to TWO field goals in the second half until the last drive of the game, they (should have) beat your team by keeping the offence off the field. Lets just face it, USC got LUCKY. If that ball bounces in bounds the game is over. NO time outs left and not enough time to get back to the line to run a play. It was just luck.

But as far as Tech goes, that is going to be an interesting game. Mizzou moved the ball against Texas in their loss. We have alot better offensive scheme than they do so I dont think that will be a factor. The key factor will be if they can keep Young from hurting them with his legs. And if he does run, I hope Slay gets a lick on him the way he put one on Evridge

Luck or not, who played like shit or not, this is the greatest regular season game I've seen since since Miami-FSU in '91. What a game.

I thought ND I had a great chance, and they did. Truth of the matter is though, the difference between a very good team and a champion is coming through in the clutch. I bet my paycheck that when the game was over and Weis was in the locker room, he thought exactly that, and he would know.

The Irish had quite a few chances to shut them down on that final drive (3rd and 19, fourth and 9), but USC got it done. Couple that with the missed field goal (imagine how much pressure the kicker would have had on that last extra point that he missed if it were tied), and Notre Dame blew it in the end.

Were there some bad calls? Maybe. But USC shot themselves in the foot several times. A couple of clear interference plays, that personal foul when ND had a fourth down and almost turned it over deep in their own end of the field, just stupid shit. USC did play like crap for about 50 minutes of the game, but give credit where credit is due. Notre Dame did a good job exposing them, and Weis did a masterful job preparing his team for this game. USC got it done when it counted, though, and that's why they are what they are.

Instant classic, game for the ages, whatever you want to call it. Whatever you saw last night, I know what I saw, and that's one of the best games I've ever seen.

Dude, the Big XII is weak this year, what can I say? That's not Tech's fault. We play Baylor, Texas A&M, Oklahoma St. and Oklahoma. We'll probably play a Florida-ish school in the Cotton Bowl.

I know you probably believe the media's take on Lubbock, but it was actually a great place to live for 6 years of my life (and I'm a city boy). My wife and I are seriously considering moving back. And players don't go to a place for the scenery (which is each to their own). They go to get a good education, play for a good coach and win. Almost all college campuses are the same for partying, social life and just having a great college experience. Besides, it's hard to beat the girl talent at Tech too. Playboy typically backs me up on that.
