Yeah, more details here please. Where is the league hosted and such?

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 25/07/05 06:36 AM

I doubt anything is available yet, it's way too early. We usually use Yahoo's free fantasy sports. Don't worry, something will be posted here in the next month or so.

count me in...

open draft, right? no "holds" or "dibs" from 2 years ago, right?

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 25/07/05 08:28 AM

Yea, it should start over from scratch. Im in of course. Crosby is going to be great, but I doubt he will have substantial fantasy impact in his first year. (20-25 goals, 65 points)

We should have a discussion on which stats are included in this years league.

Skaters: Goals, assists, plus/minus, penalty minutes, PPG, PPA, SHG.

Goalies: GAA, GA, Save%, Wins, Saves.

discuss

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 25/07/05 08:34 AM

talk is Crosby will center the front line with Mario and Rechi... so I would think he would get far more than 65 pnts.

So i guess no one found there list of keepers?
can we go into this season knowing this will be a keeper league? that will avoid people dropping injured players for short term gain.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 25/07/05 08:41 AM

I've run yahoo leagues (football and hockey) for awhile now, so I'm pretty familiar with how they are run. I can volunteer to start one, unless someone else wants too.

I prefer these settings:

Goalies: 2
Centers: 2
Left Wings: 2
Right Wings: 2
Defensemen: 4
Utility: 1 (this can be a forward or defenseman)
Bench: 3 (this could be goalies or skaters. You rotate them in and out of your active lineup as desired)

A typical league would have stat categories like:

Goals
Assists
plus-minus (combined for everyone on your team)
Penalty minutes (yes, more is better)
Shots on goal
Special-teams points (PP + SH. Some people like to split up PP and SH points and have them as separate categories)

and for goalies you'd have:

Wins (or points, 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie)
Save %
GAA
Shutouts (optionally)

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 25/07/05 09:09 AM

No, I haven't located the keeper list yet, but I was under the impression that everyone, or most, wanted to start all over.

What is the majority opinion? Start over or try and go with the keeper league.

I think trying to go with the keeper league will be difficult because it is two years later and I don't know where I placed the list, if I still have the list.

And yes, lets get together and set the scoring categories and player amounts before time.
Posted by: jerseydevi1

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 25/07/05 09:32 AM

I say scrap the keeper idea alltogether. If a person wants to take a chance of dropping due to injury someone that may help someone else down the line, deal with it.

I liked the categories MB had up there.

we had discussed doing:

Right Wings: 1
Forwards: 2
Wings: 2

but i'm pretty open.

Last time we ran pp an sh seperate and it worked well.

in fact we ran PPG and PPA which i really liked.

NOTE: Goalie(1 pnt for tie) is gonna be irrelevant as no ties are possible.

Playing (scoring) at any given time:

Goalie: 2
Center: 2
Left Winger: 2
Right Winger: 2
Defensemen: 2
Utility: 1
Bench: 6

Yeah, I forgot about that. Force of habit I guess. I'm so used to ties that the shootout will be pretty wild to watch for the first time in a NHL game.

Speaking of the shootout, I think it would be cool if the NHL allows camera crews onto the ice during the shootout. Give the fans watching on TV a close up view.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 25/07/05 04:20 PM

yup, a direct behind the shooter shot.

What about IR, is that a set position? how many IR slots... I'd say 2. we had 1 last time and it sucked sometimes... especialy if we are lookign at a keepe rleague... ditching a injured superstar to save one season would hurt.
Posted by: Anonymous

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 25/07/05 04:38 PM

Yeah, an IR position is a must. I agree that 2 is probably a good number.

Also something to consider, whomever is picked to set this up....try to schedule the draft as close as you can to the opening season start date (Oct 5th). That way if anyone is injured during the mini-camps or pre-season games, people won't pick them. I've been in some leagues that drafted a few weeks before the season opener, only to see my first round pick blow out his knee one week before the season even started.
Posted by: Todrick

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 25/07/05 04:45 PM

i dont agree on this, but thats only if we do a keeper...

i REALLY want to do a keeper, purhapse i will start a keeper league with slightly different rules... then if people want to play both they can...
Posted by: Anonymous

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 26/07/05 05:38 AM

I'm not sure I really like the idea of a keeper league, but that's probably because I'm pretty new to the fantasy sports thing. And as far as the drafts go, I would prefer to not do a live draft. Just too difficult to schedule.

I think all the stats/positions yall've talked about are good ones. Again, being new to this, I'd like it as simple as possible, but will play along anyway. smile
Posted by: jerseydevi1

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 26/07/05 05:54 AM

I agree with evanbio. Maybe we can do like we did with the baseball...2 leagues. A keep it simple league, for those who prefer it that way, and a "keeper" league who prefer that. I know the simple league setup we have on the Yahoo! side has made it easier for me to learn, and alot easier for those who know what they are doing to manage.
Posted by: Anonymous

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 26/07/05 07:02 AM

I like the 2 league setup as well ..... I am definitely in for the keeper league!!!!
Posted by: off2cjb

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 26/07/05 07:05 AM

Two leagues sounds good. I don't know if hockey had the IR. I know football doesn't have it this year.
Posted by: Anonymous

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 26/07/05 08:04 AM

Sounds like the 2 league setup is the way to go. I'm interested in both.
Posted by: jerseydevi1

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 26/07/05 08:05 AM

2 it is...
sounds like it, anyways...

I'll volunteer to commish the basic league.
Posted by: Todrick

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 26/07/05 09:36 AM

oh i'll likely play both league but i will commish the keeper.

Live Draft - it isn't a problem to shcedule, if some people can't make it then they simply prerank their players and let the computer do it off of their list.

I need to go through the possible stats/positions and figure it out.

I honestly can not even remember all the stats from last time.

I'm game for both leagues. Please hold a spot for me.

Thanks! [ThumbsUp]

I'm game for this. Just let me know.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 26/07/05 10:13 AM

ok just looke dhtrough the old rules on yahoo and unless there are major changes to yahoo this is going to be the scorring categories for the keeper:

-------------------------------------
Forwards/Defensemen:
Goals
Assists
Plus/Minus
Penalty Minutes
Powerplay Goals
Powerplay Assists
Shorthanded Goals
Shorthanded Assists
Game-Winning Goals
Shots on Goal
Shooting Percentage

Goaltending:
Games Started
Wins
Shutouts
Shots Against
Saves Made
Goals-Against Average
Save Percentage
-------------------------------------------

for positions im looking at:

Center: 1
Left Wing: 1
Right Wing: 1
Any Forward: 2
Defenseman: 2
Goaltender: 2
Utility (non-goalie): 2
IR: 2
Bench 5

making a total of 16 players(+2 IR)
(10 of which you may keep for next season)

I may go higher on the bench and increase the numbe rof players a manager can keep, (maybe even up to a 20 man team) but i want to take a look at what changes yahoo makes.
Posted by: jerseydevi1

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 26/07/05 11:16 AM

for those interested in the "basic" league, would we want a live draft or an autodraft like the XOC Yahoo! baseball league did? Also, what stats do we want to use and rosters?
Posted by: Anonymous

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 26/07/05 12:03 PM

I am game for both but especially the keeper league, save me a spot in each please!!!! I am a fan of autodrafts for eberything but in then end it doesn't matter, as long as we know the scoring setup before hand ...... which also doesnt really matter to me as no matter what scoing setup there is we all have to deal with it so it is alway even to start off with!
Posted by: Anonymous

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 26/07/05 07:42 PM

Just my opinion, but live draft's are the way to go. If the day/time of the draft isn't convenient, players can alway rank the players ahead of time for the computer to pick. A lot of the fun of fantasy sports is the draft, imo.

Again, if you are picking a day to hold the live draft...make sure you pick a day as close as you can to opening night (10/5). That way we'll all know of any injuries to players we might have drafted if they were healthy.
Posted by: Todrick

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 26/07/05 09:23 PM

in the keeper league the draft will be 2 weeks form the day i set up the league.

if your player gets injured, dump him... ir him or trade him.

the keeper league is about not knowing what will happen long term, and attempting to plan for it anyway. The reason for doign the draft early in the keeper is i want to see a lot of trades early, trades will only be valid fromt he day yahoo openes until the final match up so the only off season trades allowed are between opening day of fantasy hockey and opening day of the season.

those trades will be important in the keeper, especialy next year when teams will have 6-10 open spots to fill.

Just realized how busy with net games im goign to be this december/january:

Fantasy Football (2 leagues)
Fantasy Hockey (2 leagues, if nto more)
closing out XOC Dead Pool 2005
Opening public(friands and family), Cash prize, XXX Dead Pool 2006
Posted by: 2001frontier

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 27/07/05 07:49 AM

I would like to be involved with both. I have never done a fantasy league before, but it sounds like fun.
Posted by: skiterra

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 27/07/05 11:43 AM

I am in. The keeper league from the last XOC pool ould have been cool since I was pretty stacked up IMHO. I am not too concerned which way things go.
Posted by: Todrick

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 27/07/05 02:49 PM

yup gonna hurt considering i was runner up last time... wish i could have kept some of those players.

I'm leaning towards doing large Rosters... 20+ just because it will force people to have a deeper pool fo players and investigate more "non-stars" and learn to use them effectively... should be good times.

I will likely not make a firm decision on actual numbers until I am sitting there at the commish panel setting up the league. but 20+ is a safe bet with 11-12 active spots

anyone remember what we had goalie appearances set at last time? i liked that little hurdle as it spiced htings up a bit but would hate to set it too high.

I agree with your thinking here. I'd like to see the non-keeper league have an early draft as well to foster some trades. I like to think in a non-keeper, you have to be able to think and react when someone gets hurt, and make a decision, you can hold him on IR or take a chance and drop him.

Anyway, if those interested in the non-keeper have other ideas, let me know. Far as I'm concerned, majority rules.

"anyone remember what we had goalie appearances set at last time? i liked that little hurdle as it spiced htings up a bit but would hate to set it too high."

What do you mean by this question?

I only had two goalies in the last one, and you had to have your goalies make 4 or 5 apperances a week I think. Is that what you are asking about?
Posted by: Todrick

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 28/07/05 09:57 AM

yeah... 5 appearances.

thanks.

BTW, I found my team, and my keepers... this sucks!!!

C: Holik, Jokinen, Ribiero(lw)
LW: Erat, Prospal, McEachern(rw), Rucinsky
RW: Ryder, Bondra, Heatley
D: Niedermayer, Zidlicky, Blake
G: Giguere, Nurminen
IR: Roenick
NA:Bertuzzi

Keepers: Bertuzzi, Roenick, Niedemeyer, Heatley, McEachern, Giguere

Did you find anyone else's?
Posted by: Todrick

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 29/07/05 08:53 AM

no i didn't keep them... and you know what, that wasn't my final list because i think in the end i decied to keep Blake.

oh well, there are now Only a couple of those guys that I would want anyway...

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 31/07/05 12:57 PM

Im a little confused as to what a "keeper" league is. Does it mean you keep certain players from year to year, or does it mean you are stuck with the players you have for the year?

I like the former, but do not like the latter.
Posted by: Todrick

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 01/08/05 10:42 AM

At the end of the year you get to pick a certain number of players (probaby 10 out of 20) and you "keep" them for next season.

"football" to "hockey"
and
"frules" to "hrules"

I figure when they update the rules then the game is coming soon after... but l could be wrong smile

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 19/08/05 07:12 AM

I always prefer a live draft. That's one of the big reasons I love playing fantasy sports...the live draft! Autodraft sucks.
Posted by: jerseydevi1

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 19/08/05 07:14 AM

looks like if you aren't at the live draft, it will autodraft for you based on your pre-rankings or yahoo rankings if you don't prerank.

Livedraft it is then. those who want to be live, be live, those who can't be there, make sure you prerank, or just deal with yahoo's rankings.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 19/08/05 07:35 AM

OK, here is the non-keeper...I tried to make it similar to the keeper exept for the obvious not keeping of players after the season. I also have just listed as 2 centers and 4 wings, so we are not restricted by leftside/right side. I also made draft day the same day at 3pm eastern, so you left coast guys can be there at lunchtime and it will give us east-coasters a much needed break late on a friday afternoon. If anyone has any questions or we can agree on a change as a league, I'll be happy to make the changes...good luck, and GAME ON!

Thanks for setting up the non-keeper league, jersey. "Team Sasquatch II" on board.

I would have liked to see the draft day pushed back a few weeks...just in case someone gets injured in training camp or in exhibition games. Right now the draft is 9/2, and opening night is 10/5. That's a lot of time for injuries to pop up. JMO.

tried to make it early to build excitement, but I understand your point. rally the troops and if we get enough saying the same, I will definitely push it back if that's what we all want.

also 2 IR spots in the non-keepr may be too many... but its your call... we had 1 last time and it made for some tense moments...

If the draft is at 4pm Pacific, what time does that make it on the east coast? Also, can we add a goalie? We each had three last year and I though that was a good thing?

1. 7pm
2. you can have 6 if you want... there are however only 2 spots in the nightly lineup. i believe that is the same as last time... I know at one point last time i had 4 goalies.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 21/08/05 05:04 PM

its not too late...

BUT if you join the keeper. plan to play again next year...

im thinking teams are teams, just like in the NHL... the owner/manager doesn't matter much... if we lose a manager between this season and next we will first try and find a manager to take over that team... before starting any "expansion" teams.

imagine a keeper as a little closer to "real life" its a closer simulation to being a real team owner because you need to look long term... you need to look at young guys that will be good in the future... also you don't just dump a guy because he gets hurt... you keep him on the roster or on the injured reserve because he will be usefull later. same with under acheivers... a great player may have a bad season... but you wouldnt want to get rid of him becaus ehe just had some bad luck(like forsberg in 2003)

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 22/08/05 05:46 AM

Good point, Todrick. I tend to think of a non-keeper as a bit of a beginner's league.

Incidentally, I think I am going to push back the non-keeper draft to about 1/2 to 3/4 through camp. Seems like that is waht we all want.

Plenty of room still in the non-keeper as well. I hope we can get at least 8, to make it worthwhile.

mikejb on board to defend his title in the keeper leaugue.

Thanks. I'm in both but will drop the non-keeper one if folks need in.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 22/08/05 08:36 AM

We have 20 open spots in the non-keeper, I just figured I'd cutr it off a few days before the draft to whatever we have registered at the time. Should be plenty of space...welcome aboard off2cjb.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 22/08/05 08:56 AM

OK, I pushed back the non-keeper draft to the 23rd at 3pm EST. Any questions or further suggestions, let me know.

What did everyone else think of Todrick's idea for 1 IR instead of the 2 there are now?
Posted by: Todrick

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 22/08/05 09:03 AM

same for me on non-keeper, i will gladly drop my team if you need spots.

the real trick is ending up with even numbers.... the idea of one teamgetting a bye each week just doesn't seem right.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 22/08/05 09:09 AM

absolutely byes suck.
What is the fewest teams we should keep the league a go with? we have 6 now.

Any thoughts?
Posted by: off2cjb

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 22/08/05 09:18 AM

I would think we would have more than 6, but I say at least 8 if we can.
Posted by: jerseydevi1

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 22/08/05 10:20 AM

agreed...I think 8 or more would be best.

mad Damn draft day on a long weekend. Come on.

I guess my team will be autodrafted.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 22/08/05 08:33 PM

I went ahead and joined the non keeper as well. I guess I'll just learn all this as we go...or I'll read the rules if I'm ever not feeling lazy

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 22/08/05 09:18 PM

tis will require you to log in at least 3 times a week... more if you want to win.

you can set your lineups months ahea dof time, but injuries and trades will effect those and they will need to be changed.

last time was my first time playing and i finished 2nd... Skiterra wont admit it, but I would have takent he championship had i not kept injured guys due to the proposed keeper league... hell i even had Bertuzzi on my roster at the end.... but we lost aseason and our keeper lists... so... time to do it right.

you played well. also, it helps to know something about the players, not necessarily hockey.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 24/08/05 03:44 PM

OK, there is a request to move the Keeper league draft BACK 1 week to accomodate unforseen travel plans.

Personaly I am against it. I have waited long enough for Hockey and thus Fantasy hockey and am anxious to get the draft out of the way and let some trading begin.

HOWEVER, I would gladly move it UP one week to this Friday and 4pm PDT, but would not want to do it unless it will work for others... time is flexible.. i only set 4:00 PDT because i figured that was 7pm east coast and woud allow some of you to get home... I'm open for any start time between 8am - 11am / 2:30 - 4:00pm / 10:00pm - Midnight

or w3e can leave it as is and let people who can't make it simply pre-rank.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 24/08/05 06:41 PM

Wow...this Friday is pretty early, but I can make it. I just wish I knew more about which guys are going to play where....there's still a lot of uncertainty. Hossa and Heatley changed uni's yesterday. There's still a few guys who might decide to stay in Russia than play in the NHL this season. But I'm available Friday if you guys want to do it then.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 24/08/05 06:50 PM

one catch...

we NEED one more manager.

we need an even number... just to avoid a team a week gettign a free ride Bye...

i will hold off the draft until we get one... or Otc. 5th rolls around... because at that point i wont have a choice.
if any of you has a friend WHO IS RELIABLE then get them to sign up...

as soon as we get another manager we can do the draft if enough of you agree...

I just capped the league at 10 teams(one more to go) to avoid two signing up and knocking us uneven again... eveyrone ok with 10 teams?

i will reopen it if mor eare interested, but as it is we are still short 1, so i'm not holding my breath.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 24/08/05 06:58 PM

10 is a nice even number. I think you should stick with that. Hopefully it isn't too hard to find one more member here to join us.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 25/08/05 06:50 AM

Non-keeper league:

I just wanted to voice my opinion and say I don't like the 12 noon (pacific) time for the draft. JMO, but it doesn't make much sense. Not sure about you guys, but I don't have internet access at work. I think re-scheduling the draft to a time in the evening would work out better for everyone.
Posted by: off2cjb

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 25/08/05 06:52 AM

Todrick, as of right now, I can make it.
Posted by: jerseydevi1

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 25/08/05 08:18 AM

As I said on the non-keeper site, there are 2 options:

Prerank...Yahoo will pick in your order or thier rank order for you if you aren't there.

Change the time...If we get a majority that wants this, I say so be it, but I think it should be a majority, since there are options.

Personally, I don't really have the time to sit through a fantasy draft, so I have been preranking a bit from time to time and will have my draft board set by both dates.

I agree completely...10 would be perfect.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 25/08/05 08:34 AM

OK still missing that one extra manager...

with onyl a day to go till the proposed date I would say we are gonna wait... at elast untilt he original date, if not longer to get manager #10

I will admit whatever you would like, but I am still the champ. [Wave]

As for the draft I am unable to do a draft at night at this time since my home computer is down, so I am SOL no matter when it happens.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 25/08/05 10:18 AM

Don't move the draft just on my account if every other person is set for next friday....I might be able to track down the net somewhere that night laugh

I just bumped the draft in another league of mine back to the 25th of sept .... still plenty of time before the season laugh

I know I can't be the only guy here who doesn't like the early draft time. Also, we only have 7 owners in the non-keeper league right now. Because it's a head-to-head league, we need an even amount of teams before we can go forward. Don't you think we should wait until we get 8 or 10 teams before we start drafting players?

we need an even number to draft, absolutely, we can't start without that. What time is best for everyone for the non-keeper draft...let me know...your wish is my command...

I'm number 8 in the non-keeper league... I tried to sign up for the keeper league too, but someone else beat me to it so it seems.
Only input I have on the non-keeper draft is that I wish it was sooner!!! But I'm pretty easy... as long as it's not at 3 in the morning or something like that.

cip2...are you the 9th in the non-keeper?
I was going to cap at 8, but I will make it 10, especially if we think we can get the 10th...the more the merrier, as it were.

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 31/08/05 09:14 AM

yes, I am the 9th....sorry if I screwed up the league but I'm sure u'll find a 10th.
Posted by: jerseydevi1

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 31/08/05 09:16 AM

nah, not screwed up, we have plenty of time yet.

I am going to make the draft 10pm est on the 23rd...any objections?
Posted by: Anonymous

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 31/08/05 11:06 AM

No objections on draft date or time, I'll just pre-rank because I will most likely be out celebrating my 29th b-day which is the 22nd. One year closer to 30....oh joy!

Re: Yahoo Fantasy Hockey - 01/09/05 08:55 AM

I'm a little behind on this, but am interested in a non-keeper. i will try to check and if there is an odd number i'll sign up. if the number is even, i will wait and try to convince someone else to sign up with me. how's that sound?

EDIT: I'm in, the non keeper now has 10 teams. Woo-Hoo!

draft is at 4pm PDT TODAY... less than 4 hours from now.

you need BOTH managers in BEFORE that...

i will monitor this thread... if you can get another manager... let me know.

But be sure of it because yahoo will not let us hold the draft unless we have even numbers
